Forums - Microsoft - Gears of war 2, The best third person shooter!

In my opinion I feel that Gears of war 2 is the Best Third person shooter, even though I consider Halo 3 to be the best game I have ever played.

There is nothing like Gears of war 2 on the market and it represents the consoles moving into online play.

I have to ask one thing about Gears of War 2 before I even consider buying it. When I played the first one, I was f***ing annoyed by those checkpoints which are before unskippable cutscenes. Especially the one before the Pumping Station area with the Theron guards. Every time I got killed I had to hear about Marcus's difficulties with counting to high numbers, run, get a weapon, listen to some more banter on the radio, run more, see the dramatic introduction of the new enemy for the Nth time and then listen to some more dialogue before I can finally attempt to play the damn scene.

If you think reading the previous paragraph was annoying, I can assure you going through this tons of times was worse. Why couldn't they put the checkpoint after all the endless dialogue?

Do things like this happen in the sequel?

And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

I know exactly the scene you're talking about in Gears 1 and I had the same frustration. On Insane, I must have died ten times to those bloody Theron Guards and had to listen to Cole going on about Juice everytime I reloaded.

Checkpoints seem to be much more conveniently placed in Gears 2, since I don't remember ever having any problems with that. The one area I needed to reload several times was the Skorge fight, and it gets you right into the battle within 2-3 seconds after loading.

LEFT 4 DEAD - November 17th

Its better than the first one, so yes, its the best 360-game out there.

Max Payne is still my favorite third person shooter single player wise.
Obviously no multi player doesn't give it the overall award, I guess that will go to GOW2.

It's just that simple.

It is a great third person shooter but the best well I don't know about that.

GOW2 was fun but where was the final boss battle? if you're talking about the best third person shooter then it's fun game but nowhere near the best imo.

both Max Paynes were better than this and if you class Mass Effect as a third person game (you shoot in third person view) then this is way, way, way better than gears of war 2.
