I have to ask one thing about Gears of War 2 before I even consider buying it. When I played the first one, I was f***ing annoyed by those checkpoints which are before unskippable cutscenes. Especially the one before the Pumping Station area with the Theron guards. Every time I got killed I had to hear about Marcus's difficulties with counting to high numbers, run, get a weapon, listen to some more banter on the radio, run more, see the dramatic introduction of the new enemy for the Nth time and then listen to some more dialogue before I can finally attempt to play the damn scene.

If you think reading the previous paragraph was annoying, I can assure you going through this tons of times was worse. Why couldn't they put the checkpoint after all the endless dialogue?

Do things like this happen in the sequel?

I know exactly the scene you're talking about in Gears 1 and I had the same frustration. On Insane, I must have died ten times to those bloody Theron Guards and had to listen to Cole going on about Juice everytime I reloaded.

Checkpoints seem to be much more conveniently placed in Gears 2, since I don't remember ever having any problems with that. The one area I needed to reload several times was the Skorge fight, and it gets you right into the battle within 2-3 seconds after loading.
