They are the same game just differant versions, nobody buys both diamond and pearl, just one or the other, most of the time, I'm sure there are a couple idiots who bought both versions. But you only need one.

Because they're the same game. The version you buy only really effects the rare Pokemon you can get.

They have just entered the UK all formats, all price chart at #1 (Diamond) and #3 (Pearl), althought strangly they were #2 and 3# on Amazon all week and not able to knock the Wii off #1.

Correction: Around 10% of people buy both version, especially the people who want both legendaries. Also, each game has exclusive Pokemon.

While you only need one, 2 is the way to go for the full deal. Though, with online trading, getting both is really only necesary if you want the two legendaries.

I think the reason why people might buy two copies is because there is only one save file. If there are two kids in a family, one would have to wait until the other was sick of the game to play it, and then their entire character and all their pokemon would be deleted.

In order for both of them to be able to play it, you'd need two copies, and since there are two different versions...

That "buy two, get the value of one" idea has got to go on the best marketing ideas of all time list.

I don't like this. Game Freak can make the same game for 20 years and it'll still sell awesome. THey're not even trying to make an awesome game anymore. The first Pokemon was new and awesome, it was revolutionary, and now all we're seeing is horrid "E for everyone-ized" ports of the original game. I want a pokemon game that is actually awesome, and not regurgitations(?) of the Red/Blue versions.
