RE4 came late for the GC. If they'd had a game of that quality, it may have been seen differently.

GC was pretty poor really. Quite a few good games, a real lack of stormers. Too many good games, with minimal progression from N64: mario/mario kart/mario sports titles/zelda/f-zero - all good, but not essential if you had the earlier versions. And the more original games pikmin/jungle beat seemed to be way shorter than people expected. More try-outs than true nintendo epics.

N64 was a great console though. Lots of breakthrough games.

From the perspective of games, both were a success, but from the perspective of sales, they were a let-down.

@omgwtfbbq, I agree Half-life was much better than Half-life 2.

they both have some of the best games of all time, but the PS systems had a much larger, more varied gallery of games. One of the problems with those systems was there was often droughts between good games.

Anyone find it strange that RE4 for the PS2 made it onto the list but RE4 for the GC didn't? I think everyone agreed that the GC version was superior (not withstanding bonus content) since it was built grounds up and the PS2 couldn't handle all the features.

 RE4 for GC is at #4, higher than the PS2 version.

N64 def wasnt a disappointment to me, is everyone forgetting about Goldeneye or even Perfect Dark, two of the greatest fps' of all time.?!!?

I loved my GC also because of smash bros and mario kart but those weren't enough to keep me from playing halo or halo 2

N64 would have ruled its gen if nintendo had not been idiots and used cartriges. One damn thing ruined that consoles, one thing alone.

They are dissapointments because they are compared to the success of the Nes and Snes.

The reason why nintendo was far behind sony is becuase they didnt offer the huge varaity of games that the ps2 did or the ps1. They are doing well now becuase of the price and I can say that easily since little kids have no choice but to buy the wii and they like the innovative controller, but unfortunatley those kids that wanted a 360 or ps3 got a wii for christmas due to the price of the system. Though the wii is an awsome system. Its winning becuase of the price of the console, if it were to be up against an $299.99 ps3 we wouldnt be seeing the wii at near 10million.


If your price theory is correct, the Nintendo 64, and Nintendo Gamecube, would have far surpassed the Playstation, and Playstation 2, in sales, for they were both $100 cheaper. At the end, the price isn't integrated into the console, but only serves as a barrier.

My theory also consists of the varaiaty of games that were available on the ps systems.

1. They did. Third-Parties didn't.

2. I have seen my fair share of kids nag for whatever they want, regardless of price.

3. Highly doubt it. See above.

4. You should tell that to Sony. They made it expensive.


Your going to expect a 10 year old to make his parents waste 500 dollars on a video game console? Sony made it cheap for the consumer, they were supposed to release it at $799.99, they have been losing money for us the consumer to be able to enjoy there console even though they are losing money just to make people happy.
