@bladeneo and Xen----> I think you're right and maybe I could eat crow but we just admit that the 360 rules the hardcore gaming world and the Wii rules the rest. Im planning to buy a 360 not now, maybe in few months or next year Im not sure, because there are more games on it than the PS3. OK, sure LBP and K2 will be phenomenal but it'll not help SONY and PS3 either. I mean the PS3 userbase was shrinking this NPD sales proves it, I think wait for this.... wont help anymore. Sooner or later even SONY fans will switch to 360 because the PS3 userbase was too small for third parties to cater to it anymore...

The ps3 has outsold the 360 by 1.5 million consoles this year, with the 360 consistently being at a smaller price point. The ps3 this october had software sales 200% higher than last october according to NPD, how can it be shrinking! Are more people returning their ps3's than buying them? I highly fucking doubt it.

I've tried to be rational and you basically ignored everything that was said. Shut up. You have no idea what youre talking about.

Dont tell me about the percent and stats and what not, we're not economists here, just discuss the physical count whats the real amounts of sales. Fable 2 just beat LBP in sales in the month of October and the 360 beats the Ps3 2 to 1. Thats what we're discussing here.

Okay then, ignore 'stats' because theyre apparantly not important and focus on that BIG figure up there, that one I just bolded. There ya go.

It's pretty convenient you only focus on the US sales for your argument, of course the 360 will outperform the PS3, its got a stronger fanbase in America. If youre surprised that Fable II, an established IP with just as much hype as LBP, outperformed a new IP on a console with LESS THAN HALF the install base then youre pretty stupid.

Have they ever actually said anything like that? I honestly haven't been following any recent news with the Conduit, but their earlier interviews suggested they were simply filling a void in the market that no one else was putting any serious effort into. If they do expect their one game to completely breakdown hardened stereotypes of the Wii and change entire sales trends, that’s utterly insane. Just as insane as thinking those who think Little Big Planet will break the PS3’s stereotype as the high end cinematic console, or this NXE nonsense breaking the 360’s stereotype as male-testosterone driven shooter console.

I was only arguing past endeavors don’t necessarily dictate future ones. I’m personally not all that concerned with what other people buy, so all that would matter to me is if the game is good or not.

The bolded part was the problem, some third parties already make efforts on the Wii, COD: World at War was the HUGE EXAMPLE of it, the COD 4 engine says it all. But Wii core owners didnt appreciate it and just wait for the Conduit. The real problem HVS is facing right now, Wii core owners knew The Conduit will be the be all big game on the Wii right now they have patience to wait even there are good games comes along. If not, why theres huge hype around The Conduit more than Madworld and Sonic and the Black Knight?

Well as for the first part, Call of Duty: World of War just came out, so it seems tad presumptuous to assume how well or poorly the Wii buying public end up receiving this game, especially with the holiday seasons right around the corner. (Remember sites like this one represent only a very slim minority.) Even then, is there some reason CoD: WoW Wii deserves overwhelming success? I haven’t played it myself, but is their some outcry that the Wii version is under appreciated? Because even if it’s not a poorly done port like CoD 3 doesn’t mean it’s somehow astounding because they put more effort into what isn’t their lead version.

You basically are arguing people are getting too hyped for something they shouldn't, and that's a debate I don't care to have since it happens all the time.

As for Madworld and Sonic and the Black Knight. Madworld is an ultra-violent/ultra-stylized slaughter fest, and is extremely niche. Even on this website full of "core" gamers they’re people commenting on their dislike of the abundance of blood. (Not me, I'm jazzed about it.) As for Sonic, it's Sonic. After so many Sonic games, burning so many people, on so many systems, with such terrible inconsistency, it's hard to get hyped in general for Sonic anymore.

OK THEN, you get me there... But we still wait till 2009 to see if the PS3 could beat the 360 and about you say about my contradiction, read my last post...

And when it flops, Wii will be a laughing stock, people will point and say "see that's why there are no hardcore games on Wii" and publishers are going to be even more cautious about big-budget games for our little white console.  Whose fault is this?

Yours.  You decided to hold one single game up as our only hope of FPS gaming.  You decided to talk about The Conduit as if it were the next Half Life or Gears of War.

Just sober up for a second, stop looking at the screenshots, and consider who is making this game.

Here's a list of AAA games High Voltage has made:

(crickets)

Here's a list of FPS games High Voltage actually made original content for:

HVS makes bad games, not the worst - I'm sure they're one or two steps above shovelware, but they're bad.

And yes, it's true they're making an honest attempt to become a legit gaming company.  They've done some great things graphically and control-wise. They're putting their hearts into this game, but come on, it's their first real try, and putting all of your Wii hopes into this one game is RETARDED.

Not convinced?  Consider the latest hands-on preview:

http://www.gamesradar.com/wii/the-conduit/preview/the-conduit/a-20081113141123952039/g-2008041813828831009

Our beef? That it plays like a glorified tech demo.

A corridor facility that culminates in our hero, Mr. Ford, delivering some gun justice to explosive barrels. Once more with feeling: explosive barrels.

Hell, even Samus’ dull bit – the genero Olympus – had the decency to give us space battles to watch through the windows. There are no windows in corridor world.

...level design that would make Doom 64 snicker.

Save your hopes for when Valve decides to do that Wii project.   We all know this platform has everything needed to create the best console FPS, just don't judge it by an over-hypped, cliche-ridden game from an unknown developer.

And the list of AAA games Infinity Ward made before Call of Duty?

And the list of AAA games Bungie made before Halo?

And the list of AAA games Epic Games made before Gears of War?

And the list of AAA games Guerilla Games made before Killzone?

Ooh...a GamesRadar preview...

Your argument must have a wheelchair because it has no legs. This game satisfies current and will attract new Wii-users, only telling other developers that they're too damn lazy to make a great game on the Wii.

Yeap. the game does look well... simple... and well... generic... but hey it's not Ninja Bread Man.

But then again, I doubt it, like I said The Conduit is like the second coming. There are too much hype sorrounding it. Its like the only game that will be existed as far as Wii core owners are concerned, just wait till The conduit, just wait till the conduit, just wait till the conduit... I knew you can feel it too...

I agree. I would have expected a ban for starting a thread like this though so i didn't

HOLY CRAP! High Voltage made the best game ever, White Men Can't Jump for the Atari Jaguar!

The Conduit AAA confirmed!

I agree that the Conduit as a game has too much responsibility being places on it. It's like it's the ONLY hardcore game coming in 2009 which is untrue.

...Realistically 2009 is the year of the Hardcore for The Wii, The Conduit is a small piece. 2009 itself should demand if the Wii can be the Hardcore alternative or not.

The one area where I disagree with the OP is that it's a LOCK that HVS won't be able to make a decent game. No one thought or KNEW that Media Module could pull off LBP, yet it was able too. Before that they had few games that will be remembered.

 ...agreed

so far, we  have The Conduit, Madworld, Dead Rising, Sonic and the Black Knight, Punch Out, Sin and Punishment 2, Pikmin 3, aswell as all the unannounced games.

@bold:Determine lol, I HATE my typos...

But yes there are ALOT of hardcore games coming out in '09, with potential system sellers, as if the Wii needs it, lol. Really it is the SAME exact thing that happen on the DS. No one thought the DS would sale, and that the PSP would be the winner then too...

This notion that a developer like HVS is incapable of making a good original game, based on their long backlog of various ultra-low budgeted license titles they’ve done to make ends meet for a variety of publishers and original projects they’ve co-developed (America’s Army is also made by Red Storm Entertainment) is absurd.

This is allegedly this team’s very first truly independent major project, and they have funded and worked on this entirely themselves without a publisher specifically to avoid any outside company influencing their game until it near completion. That doesn’t mean it will be a success, but to claim it’s a failure based on what HVS’s people have actually called their “bread and butter” is ridiculous.

If you look at De Blob’s developer, Blue Tongue, you’ll see they’ve made almost mostly average to poorly received license games, many of which involve Nicktoon characters. Yet De Blob itself, their latest game, was very well received and outshined games like Lost Planet on Metacritic. (A very high budget, highly marketed game from a very reputable publisher and developer) And in likelihood, will also be more fondly remembered as well.

The point isnt if the game is good or not, the point is... did it sale or not? Did it live to its hype? Are Wii owners suddenly turned into core gamers and play core quality games on the Wii? This is HVS wants to accomplished and I think they'll never succeed. HVS can do is hope for the best and make the Conduit atleast sell a million but I think it'll be not Gears of War either.

Have they ever actually said anything like that? I honestly haven't been following any recent news with the Conduit, but their earlier interviews suggested they were simply filling a void in the market that no one else was putting any serious effort into. @ BOLD: This. Both the XB360 and PS3 are trying to estabish a total family image, it's what sales, period. I just think it's easier to get hardcore gamers then it is Causals. This is why I think 2009 IN GENERAL, is important for Nintt's console as it can truly say, "Something for EVERYONE!" then...

....Also I don't know HOW this topic turned to PS3 -vs- Wii. But I did read a few post calling out the sales of No More Heroes, De Blob, and Okami.

Okami enjoyed BETTER sales on the Wii then the PS2.

No More Heroes sold well enough to estabish itself as a fanchise...

Deblob until recently had never dropped below 10k a week, in the Americas.

I want people from now on to put a number to how much they think these games would sale on competing systems, cause all we ever here is they didn't sale enough...
