You can put whatever spin you like on it but it was never going to sell another 300k in 3 days to make it up to the figures it is on VGC. LBP thus far has been the biggest bomb of 2008, i dont think anyone can disagree with that. Nothing on the calander was given so much money and support and sold so little. |
huh? Link to LBP's budget please.

Im not talking about the budget in terms of how much it cost to make but in terms of exposure. The game has been hyped up to a level near GTA4 in places. For the best part of 2 years the game has been on every front page magazine, every news source, every tv channel and so on and so on. The advertising is emense. I have yet to see a single advert for Fable II,Gears 2,Fallout 3, or to see any picture of the charaters on shop windows or in fast food resturants. I have not seen any game spoken about by word of mouth more then LBP. I remember being at E3 2 years ago when it won game of show where everyone was talking about it ahead of GTA4,Halo 3,COD4,MGS4 etc.. etc.. the game was defined as the next best thing, the thing that would shift consoles for the PS3. Remember a few weeks ago when that report came out (i will try to find it, found it http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/jinnygudmundsen/2008-10-23-littlebigplanet_N.htm ) about SackBoy going to be bigger then Mario?..... That is where we were at.
For the game to then go on to sell only 200k with all that behind it can now only be described as "too much hype". To me this is a prime example of how the games industry is right now. So many grade A games coming that each and every one of them is talked up by every media outlet. They dont do that with music and they dont do that with films so much. But they do it with the summer blockbusters, and this would be compared to a summer blockbuster flopping.
I do find it funny however that you linked Too Human. Can't say i saw anything to do with the game. Except reading about the court case they had. The fact you try and compare it with LittleBigPlanet is amusing.
