I paid $150 for my Xbox 360 at the launch of the system in November 22nd, 2005.

Not a bad deal, imo.

It's only silly if you can't afford it. For people that can afford it being the first to have something is more important than the money. Or just having something better (HD vs. SD) is more important than the money.

Also companies know this and use this knowledge as a form of price discrimination. They know every consumer has a point which they will buy a product. So companies start the prices high and get the early adopters that have a high purchase intent. Then slowly moving the price down they get everybody at their highest price point.
