@sc: What about Brain Training, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Mario. Those games sell way better than everything, but Pokemon.

What does that have to do with what I was talking about? Firstly, all of those games you mention target a much broader audience than any of the games that are in the discussion. Secondly I was only talking about MH,DQ,and FF. So I don't see how those are relevant. They are large of course though, but not relevant to the discussion and my answer to Reject's question of what the point  is if MH is being more hyped than FF, and if it sells more than FF in japan when he states that DQ will outsell both. The answer was one we would expect while the other not so much.

Mario kart Wii hasn't even reached 2M yet in Japan, Galaxy is about 1M and Brain Age is a totally different Animal like SC said.

Of what you mentioned, AC DS has outsold (not the 64 or GC game) FF and DQ.

Also while technically they're comparable, I'm not a big fan of comparing sales of Handheld games to Console games. But I also don't like to put Pokemon in the same class of RPG (type, not quality) as games like FF, SO and DQ....but that's just me.

@Stats I didn't really mean it as an RPG. I mean if something beats what is the Third Biggest game of a genre, especially from a genre that is probably one of the most popular ones of Japan, it is a big deal.

s'all good, just clarifying that's all, because some people have called it an RPG in the past for some reason.

Personally, I'm not 100% sure MH3 will outsell FFXIII. I look at it like this, FFXII/FFX-2 is the lowest selling FF games with roughly 2.5M and MH2G has currently sold 2.53M and will probably finish somewhere in the 2.75M - 3M range.

Now I think FFXIII will do around 2.5M and for MH3 to beat that it would have to do similar sales to MH2/2G for PSP...which I don't think it will. I think a big part of the MH sales is because it's on a handheld and people can bring it with them wherever they go and meet up with friends etc.

And yes, I expect many people to disagree with me

@stats: MK:DS and Super Mario Kart have outsold every DQ and FF game, save for 1. Same for NSMB and previous Mario iterations. Sorry to burst your bubble but those games are huge by their own means. Also add Brain Training 1 and 2 to the list.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

I wonder if MH3 will outsell FFXIII in Japan?,I personally doubt it,but it'll be close.

WKC is low despite having a lot of hype. Monster Hunter 3, Dragon Quest IX, FFXIII, and SO4 are not suprising to me since those are from very well liked series.

Bursting my bubble? What bubble?

First off, Super Mario Kart...really? You're reaching that far back? Never mind the fact it hasn't outsold FFVII/DQVII and it barely outsold DQVIII and FFVIII, but that is a SNES game and that last 3 versions of the game are 1M - 1.5M off the last few FF and DQ.

Also, I've already stated my opinion on comparing handheld games to console games and this stretches to most situations in any genre in region. Lastly, again with the Brain Training that should not be mentioned at all in this discussion, completely different type of game and audience

I think they'll be within 100k - 200k of each other

I think MH3 will not outsell FFXIII in Japan. And I expect FFXIII to sell no more than 2.5m there and to get a superior part of its sales from the West.

With a Western 360 release....most definitely
