Forums - Sales - PS3 vs GC (Japan+Americas)

Not a good idea to compare GC to PS3, main reason being the latter comes after 2 100M+ selling consoles. PS3 sales are just waiting to burst, games and price cuts to come for the console + brand name = outselling GC easily

Yes, it will outsell GC easilly. Mostly because of others. The thing here is, that since it's tracking close to GC, although the tre trend is a little higher in Americas, how will it do in Japan and Americas in relation to CG. Another thing is, that will PS3 have its pricecuts in time before the next gen arrives. BD players are holding back PS3 pricecuts. As long as 360 is consirably cheaper than PS3, 360 will have advantage over PS3, which means that due to similar library, 360 eats away PS3 sales.

Really? I didn't know N64 was really so great in America :o
So GC fell in America, and N64 in Japan. Both fell in others but Nintendo never was great outside America/Japan.

NES:

19,23 Japan

34,00 Americas

8,56 Others

SNES:

17,15 Japan

23,35 Americas

8,58 Others

N64:

5,55 Japan

20,63 Americas

6,75 Others

GC:

4,02 Japan

12,81 Americas

4,76 Others

As you can see, there's no similar drop in others, that there is in Americas and Japan, of course, there's no similar sales numbers to start with either. But the drops seen in others, don't account for much in the total sales, unlike they do in Japan and Americas.

@Kulle: It's not. But it appears to be the new N64. There would propably be more similarities, if M$ wouldn't be keeping PS3 afloat.

It is tracking close in Japan.

In America, the PS3 is tracking 80% higher for the year that the Gamecube was at that time.

PS3: 2.7m Jan-Oct 2008

I am pretty sure that ps3 will sell at least 10 million more than n64 lifetime. 360 keeping ps3 afloat? What are you talking about?

Well that's interesting but remember the price of the gamecube and now check the price of the ps3. You cannot compare a 99€ console to a 399€ console. If you wanna be fair, wait ps3 price to fall at 149€ and compare with the cube.

the GC comparison will probably not be very good except in Japan. It is tracking right on the same line as the GC and the 3rd year holiday boost for gamecube was its biggest so it may be tracking in line or behind the GC until next FF13.

Perhaps the xbox is a better comparison in america for ps3, it's tracking about 550k behind.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Well, the huge gap between PS3 and GC in others could be put down to general massive growth in the videogame indutry in others.

well it's more like nintendo's failure until now to appeal to the market.  Even the SNES couldn't sell more than the genesis there.

Then how come everyone compares Xbox 360 and Ps3,when Ps3 cost 479€ and Xbox 189€ here, but not many compares Wii 229€ and Xbox 360 189€?
