Forums - Gaming - OXM reviews The Last Remnant

From a sales perspective this generation with Fable 2, Fallout 3, Oblivion and Mass Effect - WRPG's are much better sellers than JRPGs this generation.

From a review score perspective Review score averages WRPGs have scored around 10 to 15 points better than JRPG's this generation.

JRPG's are stagnant since PS2 days and I do not have much hope that FFXIII or Star Ocean 4 will turn things around in regards to improving the JRPG genre.

WRPGs are main stream and appeal to gamers world wide. JRPGs are for the hardcore gamers, fans of that genre. JRPGs are niche market except for FF series, Pokemon and Dragon's Quest that sell well.

BTW: In regards to estimating sales of Last Remnant it will be lucky to sell 700 000 on X360 and it could reach around 400 000 on PS3. (assuming it is coming to the PS3 as well)

SE do not make AAA titles games anymore. I do not have high expectations of FF XIII either.

By what standards ? Western Reviewer standards, that try way too hard to promote WRPGs and [imo] purposely downscore all JRPGs ?

For example, i was hyped about Mass Effect after reading so many [western] reviews that praised the game and its story, and when i eventually did play it a month ago on my 360, i was shocked to see how unoriginal and amateurishly it was made in both story and design, as well as beeing a tehnical mess. Hell, Wreviewers scored Lost Odissey entire points lower because it has some framedrops here and there, but completely ignored the fact that Mass Effect is virtually unplayable due to the extreme stuttering and frequent pauses and single digits framerates. Don't missunderstand me, i liked the ideea behind Mass Effect's story and i will definitelly play the sequel if there's gnna be one, but in all honesty, Ninja Gaiden 2's cutscene camera work and animations are 10 times better than Mass Effect's, so hire some professionals already.

I honestly don't see Famitsu giving low score to western games on purpose just for the sake of promoting their own games.

Anyway, this is my view on a matter that sadly seems to become a trend.

All of this

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

I might be getting the game.

I wanna see how UE3 looks in the hands of these great artists, especially concerning realtime cutscenes. If anyone can make them stuttering and pop ups free, these guys can.

Anyone knows if this game comes on multiple dics, or is it just one ?

10x

Going by the absolutely incredible in game cutscenes of Gears 2. I think the best has been done. TLR cutscenes look terrible in comparison.

Most of the cutscenes in Gears 2 are prerendered and those that run in realtime have various issues like stuttering, tearings, low framerates and pop ups. And they are not quite as professionally directed as they could have been, so no, i'm still waiting.

I don't expect any game to surpass MGS4's cutscene quality anytime soon, but i wanna see UE3 properly used in realtime cutscenes, with no tehnical issues.

@Numonex

TLR will sell 1.1Billion combined between PS3 and 360?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Fixed 400 million and 700 million.LOLLLLLLLLL.
I meant 400 000 and 700 000 respectively for PS3 and X360 sales of this game. So combined total of 1.1 million sales of TLR for best case scenario

Square really sucks in this generation, they should learn from Level 5 or Marvelous.

When Square was Square and not a mere shadow of its former self, for example in 16 bits era, it was able to release in just 3 or 4 years masterpieces like Final Fantasy IV - Final Fantasy V - Secret of Mana - Final Fantasy VI - Seiken Densetsu 3 and Chrono Trigger.

For me Square has almost died ...

Learn from Level-5? learn what? How to make a successfull puzzle game for DS and then milk it to death?

numonex: I have pretty much the same predictions of its sales, but higher for PS3 version and lower for 360. Anyway, 1 million+ is great for any jRPG game regardless of the platform.

FFXIII and Star Ocean The Last Hope won't be making big changes to the JRPG formula but they will make subtle imrpovments(FF and SO games have been known to make suble changes to keep either from getting stale).  JRPGs aren't really stagnant.  It's just a misunderstanding.  It's just that the big JRPGs other than FF(and SO if that's a big JRPG series) don't even try to make suble changes.  However, look at Persona 3, 4 and TWEWY, they all differ from the typical JRPG formula.

I don't think the game is coming to PS3 .

Gamespot doesn't have it listed [anymore]. Was it ever actually anounced for PS3 ?

Square Enix have enough teams to work on several quality titles at once.

I don't see what's so horrible about a 7/10. Normally it just means that the title will appeal to a certain audience (i.e. JRPG fans).

But to humor Zen. Yes, it's a conspiracy. This game is terrible and it will bomb because it's not a ps3 exclusive. Nobody will buy this game because Square Enix lost every bit of credibility when they released Infinite Undiscovery and everyone that Microsoft has ever known and loved will die because they bought their way into having Final Fantasy XIII. And Dorothy Mantooth is a saint.

 hahhaha this was funny

Wow Xen is getting bashed n here. He talked before the ps3 fans even said anything. ima ps3 fan and im pissed that this game is ok. even tho i will prolly still get it
