Forums - Nintendo - How many million sellers do you think the Wii will end up with?

The Wii currently has 29 with a few titles that are close and could pass the million mark before the year is over. I think of some other games already released, I think Deca Sports, Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, We Ski, The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Madden NFL 09 All-Play, Lego Batman: The Videogame, Wii Music, will all hit one million eventually. I know the upcoming Animal Crossing will hit one million with ease, if not in it's first week, definitely the second. So that would bring the list of million sellers to 38.

I think as the Wii installed base continues to grow, games will be able to sell considerably more. Also, we'll see a huge increase of good and even great 3rd party games that should sell well. I think the Wii should be able to have at least 100 games that go on to sell over a million. In comparison, the PS2 sold had 195 games that sold one million. Currently, Xbox 360 has had 45 games hit the seven figure mark with another seven or so near the mark and should get there and another few that have released recently such as Saint's Row that will obviously also get well past one million. The PS3 has had 17 with a couple games that should join those soon. There are also a couple other recent releases that will possibly pass that mark.

So when this generation is done, does the Wii have more million sellers than other consoles of this generation? Do they also pass the incredible number of games that the PS2 sold over a million?

I'll come up with something better eventually...

well next year we should have at least 50 milion sellers LTD(we may have them even right now since wii software is highly undertracked(especially in europe). still wii will have mostly multimilion sellers while ps2 had mostly 1mln sellers.

i think some titles thatll come out early next year might hit 1mil (the conduit, madworld...)

not as many that PS2 but still over 100 . (many many PS2 games are missing others data.)

I will make one bold prediction about the Wii, from this month on, at least one game will hit the million mark every month until the Wii is slowing down and there is another Nintendo system announced or being released. This month of November, I think that Animal Crossing will hit one million. Next month, I think it could be Deca Sports or Star Wars Unleashed in December. By January, I think Lego Indiana Jones and Guitar Hero: World Tour will sell one million. If either of those don't do it by then, they will do it in February. From there, I think that other new releases will break a million or older games will continue to inch closer. So every month from now till near the end, I think we'll see at least one new million seller.

That is not bold even the PS3 had this year an avarage of 1 million seller a month.

I'm not talking about an average though. I don't mean that the Wii could have 3 in October, 4 in November, 5 in December fora total of 12 equaling an average of one a month. I'm saying that every calendar month, at least one game hits the million mark. That means even in the traditional slow months of the summer or late winter after the holidays when generally, not a lot of big games come out for release. Figure the Wii has at least four years left and that's 48 months where I'm saying the Wii will have another game become platinum.

Wii has 36 games which have shipped 1m according to Nintendo's recent investor briefing.

Reaching 100 is not even the issue. Not having 100 million-sellers would be like Wii not selling 100m hardware units at this point. The real landmark would be if it could reach 200 or 250.

Obviously a number like that is a few years down the road, but as Wii's install base goes past 100m, and the attach rate climbs up towards 8 or 9 or higher, games will be reaching the 1m mark faster than anyone can keep up, just like with PS2 a few years ago.

The thing which could keep Wii below PS2's total is EA, as they made a massive amount of PS2's million-sellers, but clearly have not figured out Wii yet, and are in some ways a shell of what they were 5 or 6 years ago anyways.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Guitar Hero:WT will hit 1 million. Also, Sonic Unleashed. I can't wait to see the Animal Crossing numbers. I'm actually excited for that game. In fact it's time to start a thread about it.
