Forums - Sony - I just bought Bioshock today and... (possible spoilers)

Is it just me, or is this game freaking scary to the point of needing my big brother to watch me while playing? When he left to get dinner I had to stop playing coz I was worrying about some splicer coming into of the window and getting my ADAM..

But actually I think there's a problem with this game. The plasmids seem rather un-useful bordering on useless since the guns not only inflict more damage, ammo is very easy to acquire too. Yeah they have specific uses like the electro bolt opening doors, but that seems to be their only purpose and not for actual combat.. Also, big daddies are too hard to kill.. (can someone actually teach me how to get these big dudes?)

Overall though, despite being freaked out, it seems like a great game.. though I still don't understand why the hell we're in there in the first place (the main character doesn't talk, doesn't have a name, doesn't have a background.. weird)

I never thought of BioShock any scary. It did however had the largest amount of "crap cap crap FUCK" moments, you know... you shoot a grenade and a little child or its daddy stray too close, the results aren't pretty.

I found the plasmids absolutely awesome. Lightning and wrench, or even better, the frost and the wrench. The bees were amazing for keeping stuff off of you so you can shoot them in peace and the fire was just plain awesome. I'm also guessing you haven't finished the game yet given your questions about the main character.

^ The Telekinesis plasmid is the most overpowered one you'll ever get. Kill a Splicer, grab it and then throw it on another Splicer. The result is very funny if you ask me! =P

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Wasn't there a plane at the beginning that you had to swim through the remnants of?

Not really no. You just swim in a straight line for the shore.

The Lightning Plasmid is extremely valuable, using it to shock splicers then put a bullet or two in their head.

But there are definitely some Plasmids and Upgrades that i never had any use for. I didn't even need some of the weapons, I rarely used the grenade launcher, crossbow and even chemical thrower. It was mostly all Machine Gun and Shotgun for me.

The Telekinesis Plasmid was tons of fun. I loved grabbing gas tanks and launching them at groups of splicers and watching them go kaboom.

As for Big Daddies, I found the shotgun to be most effective

nope i haven't finished, so please don't answer those things i said lol, i'd like to find out the reasons for myself :P

well big daddies kick my ass 9/10 times, so i kinda need more help than just 'shotgun' :(

Well it's easier if you have the Shotgun upgrade so that you can get off 4 shots very quickly. I just shoot him for a pre-emptive strike, shoot him with lightning, then rinse and repeat.

Telekinesis was probably the plasmid that I used the most, but on harder difficulties the hypnotize big daddy one is also extremely useful because then you can use them to beat up on each other. All you have to do is clean up the mess for some easy little sisters.

There were some pretty useful tonics as well, like the active camo one that you get from researching houdini splicers if I'm not mistaken.

Dead Space is more scary that Bioshock despite being in their own respective genres.

Bioshock was cool, I was hopeing for something else though. The whole story seemed pretty loose, I wanted it to be simple: a random survivor in a fallen underwater utopia. No dialogues, no connection. Just a heavy mysterious atmosphere, that wouldve been more intense.
