Forums - General Discussion - THE BEST PRESIDENT TO EVER LEAD THE USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Screw Reagan. Lincoln, Washington, and Jefferson were all pretty good. If I had to pick one I would go with Lincoln. FDR was a pretty important President as well.

Least favorite: Andrew Jackson.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

FDR. It takes a man with polio to lead for (almost) four terms through the worst war this world has ever experienced thus far.

You may hate Andrew Jackson for the Trail of Tears, but as a Democrat, you should recognize his significance in shaping the party as it stands today.

I thought a US president could only run for two terms.

Yeah, I think that came in after he died though.

Nah, he's a piece of shit in spite of any good things he did.  His economic policies were just plain awful (big opponent of the National Bank), and he kind of had a Nixon complex in terms of persecuting others.  He did all kinds of politically and morally unsound things while he was in office.

Ironically, I am distantly related to the guy.

reagan in our lifetimes or lincoln overall

Are you even old enough to remember Reagan?  He was certainly not a great president, unless you ignore the deficits, Iran, Nicaragua, etc.  He also made some ridiculous quotes, like the infamous “Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do,”.

Reagan is only idolized by republicans that want everyone to forget his major blunders.  Democrats are starting to head down the same road with Clinton.

Ok, in our lifetimes (as in fairly recent).... lets see

Reagan > Nixon

Reagan > Ford

Reagan > Carter

Reagan > Bush 1

Reagan > Clinton

Reagan > Bush 2

The only one even close there is Clinton, but most people would agree Reagan was a better pres than Clinton.. namely he wasn't impeached.

You have to go back to Eisenhower to find a president that compares to Reagan (please no JFK bs.) I put lincoln #1 because, well, he pretty much saved the country, freed the slaves, um ya and was assasinated (JFK's claim to fame).

It was reagan's policies that set up the boom in the 90's. When the market collapsed in 87 if he had overreacted it could have caused ramifications that could have stunted the growth we saw in the 90's.

my lifetime its clinton but I agree Reagan was great

Reagan > Nixon > Ford > Carter > Clinton > Bush 1 > Bush 2 is how Id order your list
