Nah, he's a piece of shit in spite of any good things he did. His economic policies were just plain awful (big opponent of the National Bank), and he kind of had a Nixon complex in terms of persecuting others. He did all kinds of politically and morally unsound things while he was in office.
Ironically, I am distantly related to the guy.
