Forums - Sales - Will PS3 EVER beat Xbox 360 in HW sales this generation?

Probably.... Never.

The PS3 will never catch the 360 in the Shooter/WRPG genres, I was unsure of it up until right about now though.

Microsoft has its own very good racing exclusives in PGR and Forza.

Sony can come up with awesome exclusives but they probably won't count unless they are distinctly better than multi-plats and/or target a slightly different niche. If its not 90+ and it doesn't sell 4 million+ Its not going to move systems for the most part.

Microsoft will always have the edge of "Thats what my friends own, so i'll buy one as well" The early lead and any gains made this holiday season is critical for this.

The Xbox 360 will always be cheaper, when the PS3 is $300 im sure the 360 will be $200 for the premium SKU at least.

Live is an excellent service, don't underestimate its effects.

anyway this christmas the xbox 360 make its lead bigger by outselling the ps3 in other ...

People need to use there common sense however I am probably giving too much credit here thinking people here have it. PS1 and PS2 each sold 100M, xbox sold 30M. PS3 sales wont suddenly go down to 60M and 360 up to 60M, brand name is such a bitch. It alone sells systems and it alone will and is selling PS3's, add on price cuts for PS3 and games from huge franchises and BAM, outselling 360 seems a certainty.

I personally don't think that's going to happen as of right now...... I compared PS3 and 360 sales using the Chartz, and when PS3 launched, 360 sales were beating PS3 by about 5.5 Mil, and the gap has widened..... It may be my mistake, but from using the Chartz.... PS3 has made no ground yet.

One way to look at it is like this:

The first whole year that the PS3 was out it got outsold by the 360, which means the gap between the PS3 and 360 was a lot more than 5.5 million because that was just the launch numbers. 360 actually increased the gap for the whole first year the PS3 was out and now the gap is back to where it first began even though the PS3 is twice the price. Since the beginning of 2008 the PS3 has been catching up pretty good, again with a high price tag. It's only logical that when GoW 3/GT/FF/Pricecuts come out that the PS3 will get a reasonable lead.

The original Xbox sold about 24 million, not 30.

The recession pretty much guarantees that the PS3 is not going to do as well as previous gen.  It might not mean 60M for PS3 but there is no way PS3 is going to reach 100M.

You think the recession will last for the next 6 years? It wont sell a 100 million because the next "big boy" is here and that is the Wii. Of course money is not everything to people, quality comes first for people and would rather spend extra money for a better product.
