Forums - Sony - What Resistance 2 did right and did wrong.

Me opinion? The two gun system is definately hard to get used too. I mean this isn't Uncharted there is a resonable amount of enemies to kill with the little ammo and guns you have. This is resistance where there is 20 plus enemies, including the big guys that take lots and lots of shots. Heavy fire is central in this game and two guns just doesn't cut it. I also I'm not too fond of the new health system.
I do not like how duck works. I used to love holding down R2 and ducking and then just popping up quickly and fire some shots. With the new duck system this can't be done.
The Run function is different and takes some getting used to, but I don't mind it at all, especially compared with the other 3 issues I mentioned.

Still an amazing experience.  The graphics, ligthing and water effects are amazing.  I'd recommend it.

I agree with some parts Vagabond. I do agree that the two weapon system really took away from the crazy zany weapons u get, and made it fit the mold with the rest of the shooters, but I think they got rid of the weapon wheel because I'm pretty sure they felt it was useless. I mean, I know alot of people didnt use half of the weapons they got, me included. I stuck with the Carbine, Bullseye, Auger and rarely fareye (just to get a cheap slow down kill :) ). With the two weapon system, they made it so that every weapon gets to shine, although I do miss the weapon wheel. Also, u can't blame them on the campaign (I thought the campaign was great, especially the ending) and focusing on multiplayer, thats the way the industry is heading towards, shitty campaigns and great multiplayer.

I personally like the new health system (regenerating), finding health packs was such a pain in the ass in the first game (note: played on hardest difficulty).

I did less running and gunning in that game than I did in CoD4 because I was always sitting behind a box/wall on the last bar of health waiting for it to regenerate before I did a runner and backtracked to the last health pack I could remember.

I'm not saying one system is better than another, but for the way I usually play FPS, regenerating health is better than the health bar system in R1 (for me).

But if it's true what you say (that you can't take much damage before you're down), then that sucks, because isn't Hale meant to be a badass? What I liked about Halo 3 was the shield + regenerating health, because at least you knew when to pull out (CoD4 is sort of the same, except you don't get as much of a warning).

But that 2 weapon system sucksssss, especially for a series who's biggest draw was the weapons (talking R1 here, haven't played R2). I've also heard about the "you die and respawn at a different checkpoint with a different gun in hand that's better for the situation" thing insomniac did. That sucks. Aside from the break in continuity (and immersion), I get the feeling it tones down the difficulty factor as well.

Still, I'm going to buy this game, just over 2 weeks to go.

I can't believe you went for that thought process with guns and ammo in the first. That scenario played out in my head with nearly every situation I was caught it.

I didn't care for the MP in the first Resistance, really.

Nice review vagabond.  I agree with the need for the weapon wheel.  I don't like the 2 weapon system in R2.  The main problem with the 2 weapon system is that when "find" a certain weapon you know a specific enemy type will attack you soon.  Whenever I found a shotgun, I knew to expect a chameleon; whenever I found a LAARK/pulse cannon, I anticipated some Primarchs. I disagree with the health packs.  I feel the regeneration system works better for R2.  Particularly because it is part of Hale's "disease."  I did experience more cheap deaths in R2 than other games that I liked.  If you crossed the bridge in LA on the left side, you would fall/die into the river because I Primarch would hit it with a fireball at the last second.  The only way you would know to cross on the right side would be to die once trying it on the left.  Overall, I enjoyed the single player experience, but the cooperative is what makes this game great for me.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Everytime I think there is a game coming out for the PS3 that would actually make me want to buy a PS3 crap like this happens. I thought the single player campaign was supposed to be "epic". All of those gigantic monsters and what not. Now alot of people are saying it is crap. Bahh. First Socom sucked now this sounds mediocre. Ahh well there is always MAG (I hope).

It is very, very epic. Very epic "I can't put this down, I'm not going to work today" epic.

I personally think it's much better than first resistance in the campaign mode.

Single player is above average and multiplayer is great.  If it makes you feel better the cooperative is epic.

yup i agree with you about the two weapon system, and health thingy. Its a bit of a bummer they added that. But i guess the health bar change had to do with Hale being more powerfull this time around (or enhanced, something like that)

Anyway i'll be getting this game when it releases.

Problem is, he feels like a much bigger pussy now. You can't take any where near as much damage as you could in R1.

Good point, he does seem like a pussy in that way. But....uhm ...well.....he has red eyes? That is badass in some way :P.

I'll guess i'll find out myself at the end of the month (stupid europe release)
