Forums - Sony - nordlead gets a PS3, but needs help (media server)

alright it was a bit tricky for me at first too

now im sure you already did this but might as well post it anyways. on your pc you need to go to network and sharing center (what vista calls it) and turn on the media sharing setting. then you go into that and get to allow/deny whatever you pc pickups on your network. your ps3 will show up as an unknown device. how i found out which one was i went to the ps3 internet status to get its mac address and clicked on the unknown devices properties (lets see see the mac addresses) and when i found the right one allowed it, and of course apply/save settings.

/shrug if that doesnt do it then you have some blocked ports or your firewall settings are effin it up

It seem you are only looking forward to PS3 exclusives? Do you own 360 also? And don't forgot to buy MGS4, you can also download the demo on PS store.

I tried for day to get WMP working. Scoured forums, tried everything but the most complicated, 20 step 'solutions'. Winamp Remote. I can even stream to my PSP now with remote play. Video and audio. And it sounds like I had the same problem. The PS3s just would not show up, even as 'Unknown device'. I could see WMP as a media server on the PS3's though. So aggrevating.

no 360. I just don't really care for most the multiplat titles that are out now, nor have I really followed many of them. I don't care for excesive gore or language in my games, so that eliminates a bunch of games too.

I downloaded the MGS4 demo, but I haven't gotten to it yet.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

1) Why on earth did you buy Assassin's Creed? Buy MGS4, LBP or Uncharted now. Or R2. Or VC.
2) Check that Media Server Connection is enabled on your PS3.

EDIT: Oh, whoops. Didn't read the whole thread.

3) Can your PS3 find your computer?

I was going to ask what Kantor is above, can you PS3 see your PC and can you media share like that to transfer from PC to PS3? Mine works fine that way, I've never actually used it going the other way. Nothing on my PS3 that needs to go that way. :P

Hmm, pie.

3) Can your PS3 find your computer?

First off, I bought Assassin's Creed cause I've always been interested in it and I could pick it up for like $20. The PS3 wasn't a planned expense, so I didn't want to be spending much extra. Also, Tales of Symphonia is coming in like 4 days, and I'll be playing that as soon as it comes.

MGS4, I have the Demo, but I really don't think it is going to be my kind of game.

LBP has me interested, but I will never create a stage, as I'm not creative and don't like to spend the time. So there is no way I'll spend full price on that.

Uncharted I considered, but go back to my first paragaph, and you'll see why I didn't get it

3) No, my PS3 can't find my computer. It can find the Interenet, but that is it. The PS3 and PC are on the same subnet, I've turned off every firewall and virus checker, and still nothing through WM11. @Fury, I'm not trying to get info from PS3 to PC, I'm just trying to setup up WM11 to stream data to the PS3.

Ever tried another program? If not , then use TVersity. http://tversity.com/

I use it myself and it works like a charm. Good luck with your PS3 and give some feedback if you get it to work. I am sure you will.

ok, I now have Winamp remote set up and that worked perfectly with no problems (stupid WM11).

So one question, on my PS3, can I just select a folder and have it play everything contained, or do I have to make a playlist?

There's continuous play with the new firmware - i.e. it will continue playing the next video after the first one ends if that answers your question...also, set the display mode to "Display all" or it might not see all the shared folders on your PC immediately (you might not have to do this with Winamp remote, i've never tried it)

oh yeah - enjoy your PS3!
