Only if other franchises would replace it and hurry along with more sequels, I would kill Wii Sports. Theres just not enough there to keep momentum and its an easy kill for me.

I would say the Wii series excpet that I want Nintendo to have money to live... so what if they have worse games this gen than in the past, at least they aren't bankrupt... so I would say the Metroid series. I don't like it and its not all that bug anymore anyway so it wouldn't hurt sales much... may be 500K fewer consoles sold at the absolute absolute max. Probably more like 50-200K fewer consoles.
Also at this point it woulnd't be so bad if smash died. I can't see the series improving unless they innovate with a 3D mode in additon to 2D...

Least I would like to see die- Pikmin.

Are nintendogs, brain training, wii sports, and wii fit platformers? No. Are they shovelware.....yes.

That game didn't do so well sells wise and im pretty sure Galaxies had something to do with that. Mario does not mean nintendo in general. While he may be a logo of theres he is not the company. Nintendogs, Brain Training, Wii Sports, and Wii Fit are obviously not platformers and I didn't suggest they were. My point was that whether you like them or not, they are 4 of the most innovative new games in a really long time, and they are also 4 of the most successful new games in a really long time. Nintendo's success comes directly from their creativity. And they are not shovelware when they sell like free beer. Nintendo is fully capable of simultaneously making new games in their tried and true genres and making new creative games that are like nothing else.
I' am talking about new platformer IP creativity mainly. I want to see something else being made with some good engines other then a character that has been reused for 20 years and counting. I understand he's a beloved character, but that doesn't mean make him into everything...I want to see someone other then mario doing these games. The same goes for crash bandicoot......let him DIE. Jak is dead as far as i can tell....and thank god for that. Why buy okami when something with mario in it is going to be out soon?
Oh I see.  Well if you're talking about platformers, Nintendo made some on the DS starring Yoshi, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, and Kirby.  Wario has a platformer on the DS and a new one on the Wii.  Sadly shooters have replaced platformers as the dominant genre since the advent of the 3rd dimension.  I think all the greatest platformers are on the Virtual Console, and if you really need some 3-D platforming, your only 2 choices are Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy.

The big Nintendo platformers are mostly Mario games because ... Mario is their big platforming franchise? 

So far, soulsamurai's points seem to be:
--The Mario franchise drains creativity from platforming (by being so awesome it intimidates other developers and/or makes them copy Mario to be able to compete)
--The Mario franchise drains creativity from Nintendo (despite the fact that they've turned the entire industry upside down in the last 2-3 years, so imagine how insane things would be without Mario.  Mario is the only chance the poor fools in the rest of the industry have GOT, according to soulsamurai)

It's the easiest thing you can do do discredit an argument (and keep everyone honest -- no one should be contradicting themselves). halogamer once posted campaign promotion material that said Obama's health care plan would unfairly undercut the private sector, but raise people's premiums. I said, no it won't.

But actually, in this case, all I meant to do was boil the argument down to essentials (ALWAYS a good idea if possible to get a good idea of the basic situation/proposal) and that was enough to show that it was a bit silly, IMO. (The italicized bits weren't showing contradictions in his argument, but rather how IMO his argument is a bit silly in light of reality.)

Ok Final Fan gets what im trying to say. Mario is a huuuge icon. I loved him when i was little and i like the guy today. But the mario I like is on the Snes and n64. He did his part now let someone else take the plate let alone have a chance. Other then Kirby, Rare's Banjo Kazooey and Donkey Kong (which also spawned off of mario, or you can argue the other way around) there really have been no credible platformers that have sold well on a nintendo system. Sure gamers may recognize them but the general public just EATS mario games. If you take a look at sony, they had created a few really good and unique platformers in the days of the ps2 because those games didn't have to compete as much with Mario. I think sony is in the same boat now though. Kill of Ratchet and clank and Kill off crash bandicoot. Now what would happen if nintendo didn't have to compete with its own game? What would happen if they put most of there effort into a game that didn't have the Jumpman? If they can even move that mario development team to work on some of the other games in implement there ideas....then god dang I might actually start playing my wii. ( i bought it for monster hunter tri. )

^ See? He actually AGREES with my assessment of argument #1 here. He just disagrees with my opinion that it's not a good reason to kill Mario.

ratchet and clank has a little steam left.....but its fading for me. Many loved tools of destruction but....i just didn't feel it T.T

I didn't say it was killed off i think it needs to be killed off. I think it needs to near it's end.
