Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why does Nintendo take that long to make games compared to HD consoles?

@Mr_Tee_: Debugging shouldn't take more than 2 - 3 months... I cant imagine a debugging process taking up to 2 years, that would be insane. And how do you think companies did to release games faster when there was no chances of releasing patches, like last gen and before?

Maybe because alot of those are 3rd Parties. I dont see Microsoft or Sony Releasing amazing games each time they develop something 1st party.

When Mario Zelda Metroid come out you know its epic. Id rather have them take their time and make a good game than a whole bunch of "hardcore" garbage like Lair Haze Too Human. Thats just going by scores. Halo is garbage imo.

Its One company the hell do you expect? Dont give that multiple development team crap either. No company makes amazing game after game month after month. Talk shit about Wii Sports or Wii Fit or their simplified games but theyre making money. Sony and Microsoft wish they were in Nintendos position.

Honestly sell your Wii. all you ever do is complain.

I think in my opinion the reason is Nintendo games have legs, they arent bought and immediately traded in, the games become instant classics of the nintendo variety. When nintendo releases a game it knows it will sell for a good while so theres no financial need to rush games out, it will only cut into sales of there current good leggy game. but thats imo.

Owner of PS3, Wii, Xbox360, NDS, PSP - Feel Free to add me on PSN or XBL :)

Maybe because every 2 years another Mario, Zelda etc. would kill this franchises!

Well (as Valkyria00 already said) most of your list for the PS3 and XBox 360 is third party publishers ... But when you look at how each of the console manufacturers have done on their own platform this is what you get:

@valkyria00: Wow you sound very upset, I might have hit a nerve there :P
The truth is that Sony, EA, Ubisoft and MS are always producing great games. You forgot to mention most of the games those companies release for the HD consoles are always getting rated 80% and above. Nintendo being one of the biggest developers in the World, should have to be able to produce many games, but they aren't. Even though they are using old tech, they take up to 3 times longer to make games compared to Sony or MS who are using brand new tech.

And as of late, none of Nintendo's games have been rated like you say. Wii Music, Mario Super Sluggers, Wario Land: Shake it, Battalion Wars, Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, Art Style: Cubello, Disaster: DoC, Dr. Mario Online RX, DK Barrel Blast, Endless Ocean, Excite Truck, Helix, Home Sweet Home, Magnetica Twist, Groovin Blocks, Links Crossbow Training, Mario Party 8, My Pokemon Ranch, Wii Chess, Wii Play, Pokemon Battle Revolution haven't received the "epic" status like you imply.

In fact, there's more MS and Sony 1st party titles rated higher than Wii 1st party ones.

You put down games like Pokemon Battle Revolution, Mario Party 8, and Mario Super Sluggers like you expected those to be in the 9s or something. Nintendo makes epic games like Mario, Metroid, Zelda which they devote years to polish every inch of the game because of almost impossible expectations. Then Nintendo also makes fun pick up and play games like Mario Party, Mario sports titles, Smash Bros, ect which they expect owners to play over the course of the generation. Just like Sony makes SingStar and Buzz and all that junk Nintendo caters to both casual and hardcore gamers. Is this really surprising anyone?

Dont bring up review score please. That'll just bring up a whole bunch of other arguments.

You listed Links Crossbow Trainin and Helix.....I wont even bother with you anymore.

@trestres:
Are you sure your initial post is really about development times or did you actually want to tell us something else, namely that you are not content with the games being developed for Wii?

As the thread goes on, you mention 20 recent Nintendo games for Wii & Wiiware, which are not in your first post, as they are not "epic" enough in your book. So it looks as actually you do not really want more Nintendo games on Wii in general, but only those of IPs you like. Or in other words: You think the other two consoles have more high quality, epic games in established genres/IPs. If this is what you wanted to say with your first post, many people (incl. myself) would agree.

My suggestion: Buy one of the following to accompany your Wii through this generation: PS3, 360, PSP or DS.
(By the way: You forgot to mention in your first post that Nintendo also develops games for this little machine called DS).
