Maybe, but I myself always figured it would be the legs that were REALLY impressive and Day 1 would not be blockbuster even if the game totally was. It's like Sony got a Nintendo game. |
+1. That's exactly my position as well. It actually did better than I expected the first couple weeks. Usually, new IPs like this sell to people that keep track of gaming news and then sell more with word of mouth / advertising. If you look at games like Uncharted, Mass Effect, Ratchet & Clank, you can see the sales trend.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Gears of War did 900k first week and 450k second week back in '06 when the 360 was at less than 9 million worldwide.
It has Resistance 2 to compete against. The NA numbers will suffer as a result.
Currently playing on PS3: God of War III
Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII
Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger
There is reason why Sony have put so must hope on it...
We need to wait till next month, then we can figure it out.
LBP cant be system seller, because 479€+69 for kids is too much, but others might get ps3 because of Lbp...
Take my love, take my land..
The NA sales look good but are probably suffering from being one of many good games to choose from. I think the Europe sales will be better and probably the place where this game will shine.
When you consider the amount of hype for this game, sales would have to be a disappointment. Hopefully it will have legs throughout the holidays.
Great 4 a new IP
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Even though it's not on my console of choice, I liked the concept and hoped it would do well. Taking into account the stalled launch, missing the window of hype that had been generated, and the closer release to R2, I suppose it still did ok, bordering on slightly disappointing. If you add the sales of last week from the limited early launch to this week's sales and consider the combined total as first week's sales (which I think is fair in the circumstances) I would say sales are reasonable but not spectacular.
I agree with some of the comments above though about the legs of this game: it's the sort of IP that will continue to sell throughout the PS3's lifetime.
