Forums - Sales - LBP Sales week 2 -- Increase of 60K in NA! 400K WW! Good Or Bad??

LBP is anything but huge based on existing sales figures. The hype for this game was always doomed to result in relative disappointment.

Nonetheless, it is good that the game looks to be getting towards being commercially successful, to accompany it's critical acclaim.

"Relative disappointment"?

No one is disappointed.  It's week 1 sales of 400k and it's only in 2 regions, not counting EU.  >_>  If EU sales are anything like NA sales for the game, it will do another 300kish for it's opening week there, bringing it to 700k week 1 in all regions.  More than my 500k week one prediction.

Disappointment would be if 1st week sales were well under 500k, but it looks like well over 500k.

prediction lbp will sell a minium of 200,000 units a week from now till xmas so it should pass 2 million easily with about 8 weeks to go

The problem is that people look at the predictions other people make subjectively.

DMesiterJ looks at the predictions, and ignores the lunitecs predicting 1.5M

Selnor looks at the predictions, and ignores everyone, but the people predicting 1.5M

DMeisterJ has a feeling the normal person predicts lower than they really do, Selnor has a feeling they predicted higher.

So you see it as a big success, and he sees it as a relative dissapointment, whereas it is really somewhere in between.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

If LBP sales are poor then Mass Effect and Bioshock on 360 bombed. Both over hyped games barely sold 2 million. I remember Zen said that if LPB just sold 2 million then it flopped but what about games in your fav console?

I was just focusing on my prediction of sales which were 500k first week, which was generous considering the fact that it's a new IP and such.  So 700k for a first week would have me very happy, and not relative disappointed.

I'm sorry?  The game sold just over 200k week one.

That is disappointing indeed.  In its second week in the US, it did well.  But if you contrast words like "huge" with estimates like 500k first week WW (which games as recent as Fallout 3 and Fable 2 have shown to be decidedly un-huge) then you are bound to contribute to the sense of massive and excessive hype surrounding this title.

I never said "First week LBP numbers will be huge."

I said "LBP will be huge", which four the ninety-second thousandth time, started off as a joke because of a lot of LBP hate that the game got.  It was never a denotion of sales or anything as such.  It just fits well to the game.  And the first week sales are 400k + EU numbers, since, as was mentioned, the Saturday October 26 release was limited quantities at limited retailers, and I'm not going into that anymore.  With EU numbers added 600k - 700k seems all too likely, which would be huge for a New IP.

It's disappointing for you maybe, I don't know (or care) what you expected first week, but for someone like me who has continually stated that it will have a first week of 500k or more, I seem pretty content with the sales.  Please don't try to turn "huge" into an actual number it should have hit cause it wasn't.

@starcraft

no-one said LBP 1st week will be HUGE

its a NEW IP......we would be fools to expect that.

EVERYONE always said LBP will have LEGS....hence taking its sales up to HUGE levels later on.....

either you are "pretending" to ignore this fact & twist things like you USUALLY do anyway....or you are just so ignorant its funny!

My own prediction was 650K week 1 in a thread a month ago......that is easily possible with EU sales added to the 400K "week 1" figure that I have assumed and will continue to assume

Of course it's the Starcraft Spin.  >_>

It's expected. Still sad though.

Assume away.  At the end of the day, we are at the end of week 2.  DMeisterJ routinely said that the game would be huge, largely because the hype for the game was huge.

I don't understand why you are so adamant that you are right.  The game is great, the game sold well.  But it didn't come anywhere near the PS3-selling level of anticipated sales expected by those generating the hype.
