According to a couple of my friends, who bought Gears of War 2 at the midnight launch, think Gears 1 is better than the second one. I was thinking "Are you crazy? This game is amazing!" They said that the shooting is not as on point as the first one. They also said that everything about it is different and that it doesn't feel the same.

Who else thnks my friends are crazy for saying this?

Thats what my friend said.. he even said it looked better visually than gears 2, though gears 2 supposebly looks better than Uncharted, but gears 1 does not, so idk.

Is your friend playing through an SD tv. Cause on a 58 inch 1080p tv gears 2 looks much better. Its more alive...not to mention it runs smoother. The campaign feels a lot ambitious as well...and im only on Act 2...

Take a look at the cutscenes for this game. If you consider the MGS4 custcenes to be rendered in "real time" with the in game engine...then these are in real time as well and are just as good if not better.

my friend got his game from bestbuy cause he thought he'd get that little tank thing, and they didn't even receive the tanks yet.. So he was pissed about that, and then he said the same thing many others have said that it is just more of the same...

gears 2 shit kicks 1 in the face

I think there is confusion in what some people say.  "Gears 1 is better than gears 2" - this phrase is subjective, yet to an extent accurate.  Gears 1 was innovative, amazing, great looking, wierd story... all together a great game.  Gears 2 is a washed over extension, much like Halo -> halo 2 (minus the annoying voice).  In terms of innovating new ideas and giant leaps in graphics, gears 2 is lacking.  but this is not to say gears 2 is at all bad, even remotely bad.

nope, outside of preference of content (i.e. levels, music, story), gears 2 is a refined gears 1, more balanced etc
plus the visuals up show everything on console right now, it's graphics are no where near gears 1, better than ALan Wake, Better than Heavy Rain, Better than Killzone 2, Better than Resistance 2, It looks incredible massive enemy counts, better lights, larger more detailed environments, better A.I., for everyone
everything graphically is just better
plus the Horde rocks
