If you ask me, none of the companies deserve success this gen. Nintendo abandoned their fans (you should be GRATEFUL we give you three first party games in one year, one of which is a virtual gym and one of which is... Wii Music), Sony made several wrong decisions and Microsoft bought game publications (not just fanboy ranting, go look at Variety. Microsoft has a deal with them)

I've got to ask what you consider that third game to be

Is it warioland, animal crossing wii, mario kart wii or smash bros brawl?

I was referring to Brawl, but damn, I forgot about Mario Kart. Okay, I'll count Wario Land as well. And Animal Crossing.

Why the hell are people ranting? Core gamers have plenty of core games!

i agree.. and i have no idea why people rant about the wii lineup

I ve always dedicated  my life to videogames. Since the very late 70s and early 80s, videogames have filled every night of my existence. I still have in my house an intellivision, a magnavox, a vic 20, a commodore 16, a commodore 64 and 128, a spectrum 48k, many pcs, an Amiga 2000, a playstion1, ps2, a dreamcast and now a ps3. I think I can be considered an hardcore gamer..

I must admit that i ve never liked nintendo brand and all that kind of games, but i ve always appreciated some games like zelda and mario.

But now, it is for me impossible to understand why wii is selling so much. I tried and tried againg to understand what's happening in these years but unfortunately I 'm not able to undestand why someone has fun with nintendo wii.

Maybe i'm becoming old (i am 35) but it's hard for me to enjoy myself with a console with that graphic, with those title (i hate wii sports)...and i'm disappointed bacause maybe i'm losing something important of this generation.

i'm very enthusiastic of my ps3..I can play some good games (in this period mgs4, wipeout, fallout3, lbp) i can watch blu ray (on my 52" lcd it is spectacular) i can use internet in my sitting room, i can listen music and watch all my 5000 photos on a big screen.. Now i'm waiting killzone, resistance, Re5...and i think the future will be brighter..

but when i see my nephew playing with her wii, i still continue to not understand...maybe if I were 7 years old and I lived in the 80s, wii would be a fantastic console...unfortunately almost 30 years have passed.

so what's wrong with me?

Man, I love when people sign up just to rag on a console. Especially when they can't tell the difference between a boy and a girl.

Try to write in my language, in Italian, and then I'll check how many mistakes you commit..little stupid boy

I have almost the same consoles and home computers like you im into gaming since the mid80s

but from the last gen i only own a 360 and a wii

i find myself playing more with the wii than the 360

new games feel so boring.. dead space.. gears of wars2.. etc i cant play more than 10 minutes

the reason of this boredom is the controls

after the wii and especially metroid prime 3 i can't touch another console

i feel that always something is missing

something with the traditional gamepad seems so old-school to me

i cant wait for the motion+ accessory

Can I ask what games you have tried for the Wii?

I assume you nephew has different tastes in games that what you have.  A lot of peope hate wii sports/play/music/Fit, but love other Wii games, such as Mario Galaxy, Brawl, Boom Blox, de Blob, RE4, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Kart, No More Heroes, etc.

i bought mine for zelda!

"help me, I can't still understand the reason why wii is selling so much"

Because the Wii has many exclusive top-games.

i think it caught on because of it's opening price point, the novelty of motion control and it came with a game which utilized the new controller very well. also, as everyone mentioned, there are several quality games for the wii.

(nephew = boy and niece = girl)
your nephew or niece is of a completely different age group than you are so i don't know why you are surprised that that person is enjoying a console that you do not. as young as we all want to think we are (i'm 33), we can't always relate to what someone else feeling. don't prowl the internet trying to recapture your youth... it's not really a young girl.

personally, i don't like ultra-realistic games like you do (gta4, cod, re4?) but i can accept that your taste in games are different than mine.

EDIT: i also don't mean to insinuate that only young people like the wii... it just depends on what people are looking for to enjoy themselves.

Another point I don't think has been mention is that initially 360 and PS3 both targetted their system at a very specific market segment - the core gamer. In every respect from pricing, to design to line-up of game both systems were targeting the hardest of the hardcore.

Now both want to broaden out, with MS doing more to accomplish that this generation than Sony but both kinda figured they'd get the profitable core first and then the vast casual market later. Nintendo however has perfectly gone after that vast casual market limiting MS and Sony's ability to grow beyond their core. The fact that 3rd parties are putting all their mass market games on Wii and the core games on HD doesn't help them any either (although some of both appear on the other consoles).

The PS3 is not the PS2 of last generation, it's the xbox. The most expensive, most powerful and least diversity of games. 360 is better but Wii has an incredible diversity of games for people of all tastes. It is lacking in core twitch action games though so it's not quite the PS2 in that respect but it's broaden the market even more than the PS2 did.
