Looks like all is right with the world again, according to the latest numbers from Media Create. This week on Sony's home turf, the PS3 moved 39,587 units -- outselling the combined figures of the Wii and Xbox 360. Also worth noting is that PS3 sales jumped a whopping 907% from last week, when the PS3 sold only 3,931 units.

As we reported yesterday, Grand Theft Auto IV for the PS3 took first place on the Japanese charts -- now we know it has sold 132,676 copies, while LittleBigPlanet and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: Spec III sold 51,705 and 34,965 copies, respectively. You'll notice that Media Create has released slightly different numbers -- for example, the 360 version of GTA IV is in eighth place now instead of fourth place. Hardware sales are below, software sales are after the jump:

It's odd how there are still people buying Playstation 2s...... In Japan.

Not over nine thousand. Kinda makes it seem lackluster.

So that means it sold 4,000 units the week before, and this week it sold 39,000?

Actually sales are mediocre in Japan everywhere. I just can't get excited over 5 digit numbers.

Awesome sales for the PS3, its lil bro the PS2 is still tearing it up 8 years later... Just wait until GT5 and FF hit Japan!!!

And this is with no pricecut. Amazing~ Now we know being half the price can't always be the one selling the most.

Good point Faye, No price cut and still achieving great sales. PS3 is destined for success, don't take my word for it though, EA and Activision both believe the same.

So is VgChartz going to track the sales of Prologue Spec III separately or combine it with sales of GT5 Prologue??

Its the same game, spec3 just refers to the last update and how its already loaded on to the disc.

i'm sure that the ps3 is the younger bro of the ps2, considering it  came out six years before the ps3.

i wonder why they consider the dsi and dslite separate systems.
