I don't know if I would call that an easter egg because its not really extra, but I had seen that before, always talked to that guy.
I don't think I saw that on my first playthrough back when the game came out but when I played through it again I saw it.
It's very easy to miss.
I've known this for a few years now :p
After Zelda escapes but before you go forward in time. He also appears for a split second when you enter that part of the alley, before Zelda runs a away(glitch).

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing

Yep, he's definitely in the 64 version as that's where I saw him as well.
Yeah, easter egg is a wrong label since it's actually a story event. I'ts just one of those things that a lot of people miss.
Yeah, I was already aware of this and it's not an easter egg. First playthrough on N64 due to habit of looking everywhere and talking to everyone, even though there's nothing. XD
