Forums - Sony - Alright, i've used a bluetooth headset for about 1 month and...

Hey! Live has it's fair share of idiots too. Don't try and claim this as a win for PSN.

Although Live tends to degrade into a tirade of racist insults. The free headset doesn't pick up on enough background noise. You gotta buy the wireless one for that.

That's true.  I actually think that LIVE has more idiots, but that's mostly because more people have headsets on LIVE and that undoubtedly increases the odds.  As for the "racist insults" statement, that's a little silly.  One of my best friends plays with me on LIVE, and he is black (and his voice is a dead giveaway for it) and literally in 5 years on LIVE with each other we've only had someone break into a racist tirade once (when Halo 2 first came out)... and that's it.

I actually like the PSN, but I really hate the fact that Sony chose to use BlueTooth for a number of reasons, one of which is the fact that their darn headsets pickup every pin drop in the room.

For example, while I was playing COD4, my wife quietly says to me, "Honey, I'm gonna jump in the shower".

And of course, with the dumb Bluetooth headset, everyone in the room heard it, and therefore for the next 6 matches all I heard was people saying, "Tell your wife I'll jump in the shower with her", and "Hey dude, does your wife look hot naked?"

It doesn't mean that PSN people are any more immature than the people on LIVE, the difference is the wired headset most people have on LIVE literally only picks up sounds 6 inches or less away from the mic.

Also, the Bluetooth headsets, controllers, etc suck down their internal batteries REALLY fast.  The headset is the worst really because I have to plug it back in every 3-4 hours which is really annoying.

Lastly, a lot of seasoned PS3 players seem to have a difficult time syncing their headset with the console.. and therefore a lot of people end up not using it.  Anyway, as much as I love my PS3 (I even love the sixaxis controller that everyone else seems to hate) Sony made a mistake on the Bluetooth thing.

did you try getting a really crappy bluetooth or USB headset that doesn't pick up sound very well? Just a suggestion. Personally, I think bluetooth was an awesome decision because it gives you a lot of options on what headset to get. You don't have to buy their proprietory version if you don't like it.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

Well, I had a really good Motorola which was TOO good... so I went and bought a cheap generic one, and it wouldn't stay on my ear... so I bought the new SOCOM just to get the new headset (I traded the game back in for $25.00, so I only spent $35.00 on an awesome headset)...

I love the new headset, but I just wish it wasn't so sensative.... though I do like the fact you can just plug it in to the USB port and it automatically syncs... real cool feature on the PS3 if you ask me.

Honestly, the headset issue is the one reason why I don't play shooters on it as much... it's hard to make online friends to play with regularly because not as many people talk on the PSN.  Which is a shame, because especially on COD4, the Sixaxis controller is far superior to the 360 controller because the analog stick sensitivity is better, and therefore I am faster with it...

I really wish Sony would have put a secondary option 2.5-mm headset port on the controller like my 360 controller... that would have been nice.  It's just too inconvenient to stretch a USB cord across the room with my setup.  I have a 65" 1080p Sony Bravia I use strictly for gaming, and you have to stand back at least 8 feet... oh well.  Maybe the PS4 will have this?

If you are finding the headset oversensitive, go into accessories ->  audio devices, and drop the sensitivity a notch or two.  Should work just fine.  I think a lot of people on PSN have their sensitivity too high, or their TV's too loud, and it causes feedback through the microphone.

I guess i must be the lucky one, over the last 10hours of gameplay in R2 i have only had two cases i would consider bad, some kid who would not shut up and some guy blasting his shitty music. And a quick leave of the room fixed that issue. I never really had all that many issues in CoD4 either.

Nice. Thanks for the tip.  I actually have had my PS3 for awhile, but I never actually started to enjoy it until my 360 went down with the RROD and I realized it's a pretty awesome system (actually, I'm way better on COD4 on the PS3 because the Sixaxis controller was MADE for that game, I swear it).  Anyway, still learning the perks of the PS3, and I just learned another, so it's all good.

Online gaming is a new world. Wii owners don't know (or don't want to know) what they're missing. :p

Unfortunately that new world is filled with the lowest of the low as apparently most of these gamers have no sense of respect for themselves.  Been a member of Xlive for almost 4 years now and I must say the trash is worse than those women on VH1 reality shows.  It's a real turnoff for online games.  Only reason I consider a mic a must nowadays is for talking to friends cause I got nothing to say to the rest of those low lives.  Wii only owners are missing out friend connection not social environments.
