I was watching from the Chron's newsroom and was ROTFL. I think it sucks.

Wow. So can that hologram actually be seen by people in the studio? If so, I think that one day, this will be a standard news device.

No, it's like the effect when playing Eye of Judgement. A prop that is analyzed by a computer is used as a point of reference where to draw the hologram on the screen.
