Forums - General - The official President Obama thread

I'm so happy to see Obama win :D Poured myself a nightcap and settling down to sleep after all those hours on the couch watching the election coverage.

Good concession speech from McCain. And a particularly nice speech from Obama. I hope the spirit of unity and bipartisanship lasts into his term, and I think it will.

What an incredibly historic election.... Obama could be capable of remaking the democratic party in much the same way that Reagan did with the Republican party. It will be nice to have someone with some smarts in the White House again.... and as we all know, the "tax and spend" liberals have actually made the best fiscal conservatives of the last 28 years :P

@bardicverse: it's a joke.

You miss the point - while this was a joke, its actually quite the example of what WAY too many people focused on in this election - race. I'd prefer the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., where  a man could be judged by the integrity of his character, not the color of his skin. While Pres. Obama is a bright man, too many people wouldn't even scratch the surface to get to that level, and could see no deeper than his flesh. Both sides are guilty of this.

What the hell are you talking about?  If you're in the minority race you'd root for your race to win too.  There's pride involved there.  It's plain and simple, really.  You can't take that away from the collective subconscious, no matter how `logical' you construct your arguments to be.   The fact of the matter is while character and integrity and all those fine concepts would be nice to idealize what should compose winning characteristics, people are mostly dominated by preprogrammed instincts and culturally ingrained programming.  What is ideal only exists in mathematical equations.

If there's truth in your words, then the only thing I can hope for is total destruction of the world, for every single person deserves to die. When you cannot use logic to overcome pride, then there shall forever be hatred inside of you. If everyone is made of this same construct, then death to every human being is mandatory, as we've all been corrupted with hate.

Yes, evidently everyone in this thread is consumed with hatred.  Well maybe except for you, you're quite peachy.

.... and this is exactly why I didnt vote for Obama OR McCain. I am so sick of the following lines I've had slung at me:

"Vote for McCain, because Obama is black"

"Vote for Obama, or you're a racist"

So to everyone who played the race card in this election, kindly burn in hell.

I voted for one of the lesser known tickets, simply to protest against both sides, and no, I didn't vote for Nader.

You care too much what other people think.  Vote on what issues are important to you, what traits of character and personality.  Vote for the best man for the job.

Don't vote a certain way because other people pissed you off... in that situation, the only loser is you.

GObama!

The first black president ever! woot. I didn't vote, because I live in DE. Where voter turnout was 16k out of our population of 860k. That's 2 percent. We all know DE doesn't matter. >_>

And I wouldn't have voted for Obama, because I seriously do believe he is the anti-christ. But I'm glad he won. Good day for unity, and for the progression of the country.

go to sleep, you make no sense.

Hey, I heard there are some guns and some religion for you to go cling to.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

ROTFL. What's funny is - homie will probably do what you say. You know ... DmeisterJ is mine and mine only, everyone else hands off. He's seen my face.

Congratulations to Obama.

I am very proud to have voted for McCain and I am sure McCain would have made a much better president but let democracy rule.

With all this talk from people afraid of the "terrorist", the "socialist", and the "black guy" I'm reminded of an old saying about a pot calling a kettle black.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Am I the only one getting a little freaked out by the "everyone deserves to die" and "terrorist!" speeches in this thread? This is supposed to be a joyous occasion.
