Forums - Nintendo - Quamtum of Solace Scores 4.5 on IGN

I have been posting my comments in other threads but I will put them here too:

I have been playing the game since it came out. Here are my first impressions:

The Bad

1. Controls are not as responsive as MOH:H2.
2. Singleplayer is extremely passable.
3. Aliasing is very jarring (didnt see half as much aliasing in Online Multiplayer.
4. Graphics are pretty subpar.
5. Online Multiplayer doesnt run at 60 FPS
6. Lack of indicators for a grenade active in your hand and grenades thrown next to you.

The Good

1. Online Multiplayer is fun, not super fun.
2. Lots of really great ideas with potential (cover system similar to Gears of War, Melee attacks are Tenchu style stealth kills and easier to execute than MOH:H2.
3. Able to jump and traverse obstacles.
4. Some pretty good Online Multiplayer maps (Facility 2.0, Venice)
5. Online Multiplayer (max of 4 players) is more strategic versus fast Twitch FPS ala MOH:H2

After I played the single player I was really disappointed. I was definitely ready to trade it for COD 5 when it comes out. But after playing Online Multiplayer I just might keep it. Simply for the different experience that it offers over an FPS like MOH:H2. Its more strategic, slower paced, melee executions and much more intimate in general. It does kinda feel like Goldeneye. Just more glitchy (polygons popping in and out, shadows visible thru walls)

I cant recommend this game overwhelmingly. Like I said I might keep it only because of the Online Multiplayer. If you plan on purchasing it dont expect MOH:H2.

Atleast make the reviews more honest, but I guess even reviewers dont do this either because its on the Wii. Theyre making flaws on any game because its on the Wii...

Some do but I think for most it's more a matter of developers are putting their secondary teams on Wii development and the product is below what it should be.  IE: If they had made that same game for PS2 last generation it would have been better than this Wii version this gen.   In that respect they are right to score them low.

Look at de Blob, it got great reviews because they developer made a polished product.   QoS isn't.

I think what you posted was good idealistic optimitic view of whats happening in reviewers right now but still I wont bite it. This is a licensed game we're talking about a movie based even, we knew what to expect in these licensed games we knew it will not be a good review even in other platforms but why give HD console version a 7 while Wiii version a 4.5? I've read the review of IGN they didnt even give the online mode a chance thats how biased they are right now I dont care if De Blob given a 8 point something its a niche title to begin with and it shows on sales.

We're talking reviews here and even a very very good review doesnt mean good sales, just as you said Carnival games gave a bad review and yet its a million seller so why bother have faith in reviews? I think reviewing Wii games only pisses people off since we always expecting bad reviews even the best sellers, Star Wars FU dont stop selling even on the Wii even what bad reviews it gets.

@ yushire - Whoa. You're pretty pissed huh?
Okay I'll consede that most reviewers are hardcore fanboys. As such they can't help but consciously or subconciously compare it to the games they want to play the want they want to play it.

I think IGNs reviews of Wii Play and there comparison's of the Shawn White games are excellent examples of that. Matt Cassamansina (or whatever the spelling is) clearly just doesn't 'get' Wii Play. There's nothing wrong with Wii Play there's something totally wrong with his approach to the game. That said, a lot of gamers will come at it with this same approach or mindset and agree with him.
As for the Shawn White comparison that was pure stupidity. They are totally different games aimed at different demographics. The HD version is a sim aimed at the core crowd that'll spend hours at a time playing. The Wii is an arcade aim at everyone else who plays for minutes at a time and wants something fun and engaging in a physical way. Now these reviewers - who all sit playing games all day for hours both at work and home - say the HD version is better. Well, yeah, for them but not for the target audience.

Worse is the simple truth that only about 5% of video game reviewers have real journalist credentials. They are not real journalistic critics they are by and large fanboy critics who are paid to do it. If the industry wants to become mainsteam and be taken seriously by the masses this is one of the things that has to change.

In think reviewers dont change their ways anyway especially dealing with Wii games. They'll continue this till the end of this genration, sad but true... The Wii will be on the DS levels HW and SW before they are convinced that the Wii too is for core gamers.

Facility 2.0?   What?  Like a sequal to the GoldenEye map?

Also, max 4 player online?  I can only call that pathetic.

Not like I expected this to be good though, HD versions made at same time, PS2 version (though from the screenshots this looks lousy for a PS2 game).  Then the fact its based off a movie, and in the 11 or so years since GoldenEye the only good Bond game was a stand alone made up story (Nightfire).

yup, its a revamped Goldeneye Stage, pretty slick as well
