What's the point of this thread? Anyone that follows technology knows that Blu-Ray is the future of disc based movies. They "won the battle" against HD DVD so why is there a thread bragging about Blu and telling us information we already know?

Because BluRay is not worth upgrading from DVD given the prices.

 Quoted for truth.

Personally, I will buy a Blu-Ray player but not yet. If I don't buy a PS3 first, I will wait until I can get a top brand and newer model player for around $150 and most if not all movies release for $15-20. The fact that only the lower end models are just now coming down to $200 and most big movies release at $30-35 makes me not interested just yet. It is only a matter of time till I get one but not when I can find numerous movies on DVD for sale and clearance for under $10 and even $4-5.

I'll come up with something better eventually...

@ vlad, prices of DVD were just as bad before it blew up, which blu ray is doing faster than dvd did, btw Bigger games=Better games

Yeah, except the advantages of DVD over VHS were much more numerous and much more significant than BluRayy over DVD. As it stands BluRay is DVD v1.5. Bigger games also don't mean better games at all. Portal is better than any game that has come out this side of 2004 and it was like 500 megs, if even that.

Edit: It's 487 megs.

What's the advantage of blu-ray in gaming?

Umm yea , its kind of the norm that successful games get sequels that is close to the original with a few improvements.Just look at motorstorm (ooo tropical setting) , gta , mgs series and halo series. And to the OP why dont you list the disadvantages of  blu ray? Because those would equal the positives.

1. So what? With the price of 50 gb as it is already do you honestly think that any sane developer would actually use the 500 gb disks. And not only the price of the cd but the cost to actually make a game that even fills 50 gb its corporal suicide for a company to actually work on a 500 gb disk to fill a reasonably amount so stop living in lala land because it aint happening

2. What sane person would do this to their cds is beyond the J mans comprehension.

3. 1080p will always be 1080p. Weather on dvd or blu ray. The only advantage blu ray has over dvd is more space for extra features.

4. Cant comment because the J man knows nothing about home theater systems and surround sound

5.But are they as accessible and affordable as dvd drives?

6. Blu ray will not over-run dvd so long as movies dont run for 5 hours. 4.7 gb is enough to enjoy the movie (which is the reason you buy dvds in the first place) . So to call them ancient is going to the extreme , if anything bluray will become extinct before dvds do.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Maybe the same that CDs had over floppies, and DVDs had over CDs.  That's just a shot in the dark.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

More space= Bigger and better games, nuff said.

With typical/good retailer discounts, the difference in price is worth it to a lot of people.  Those who are poorer may value things differently, of course.

Your first post was irrelevant because the fact that a blu-ray drive can also play your old DVDs wasn't even among the listed positive features of blu-ray.
