Forums - Sales - Most Gamers Shop Wal-Mart First

November 3, 2008 - IGN's recent 'Are You Game?' study revealed that Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, is also king when it comes to videogame sales. Respondents to the survey picked Wal-Mart as the number one place they shop for games. GameStop and Best Buy share the second place spot, while Target came in third. After that there appears to be a considerable drop off as other retailers fight for the scraps of consumer attention.

We already know how powerful Wal-Mart is, they pretty much single handidly brought hd-dvd to an end when they stopped selling them and promoted blu ray instead.

Considering NPD doesn't take into account Wal-Mart do you think that effects their data? Does VG Charts include Wal-Mart sales?

This isn't that surprising, in some towns there isn't anything else except a Wal-Mart. So it's either buy from them or spend 45mins to and hour driving to a different town just to buy a game.

I would choose a 5min drive over and hour drive any day.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

I hate buying games at Wal-Mart. You have to go on a fetch quest for the electronic department guy who is never at his f-ing register!

I buy my games at the Future Shop where the games aren't caged and you can actually look at the back of the box before you buy it.

Signature goes here!

I usually get my games at GameStop. NPD sales are off if they are not including Wal Mart sales.

Walmart sucks. Small selection of video game products, games behind glass, hmm... I guess that's all but it's still a drag. I go to bext buy, where I can look at the games before I buy them. Our walmart has 1 video game aisle, best buy has about 5.

Games are behind a Glass at my Best Buy too :((

I still shop at Best Buy though, it has a wider selection and with my reward zone it is actually cheaper for me...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Yea I personally don't ever buy games at Walmart but I can see why some people would. Does anyone know if ioi includes Walmart in his data?

I go to Gamestop first.
haven't bought a game at walmart actually.
mostly because the games are locked away and have to find someone to help me.
