Forums - Gaming - Guitar Hero Iv or Rock Band 2?

Simple question...Can't decide...

Gh Iv has better setlist in my opinion.

Rock Band 2 gets much better reviews.

I have read that Gh Iv has baaaad instruments.

Bonus question:Can you find something like Frets on Fire on Gh 3 pc?

If you are looking to download content then Rock Band 2 has a lot to offer. Rock Band is also better for playing at parties and with non-gamers. I like both franchises, but I have invested more into Rock Band.

I consider the GHIV instruments far superior based on my own experience.

But there have been some problems with Guitar Hero Iv guitars and drums,is it just bad luck or have all had problems with it?

If this is for ps3 - GH4. BTW I have no problems with my GH3 guitar for it. Dont know what problems its suppose to have.

The songs on GHIV are more recognizable.

The songs on Rock Band 2 are just as good but not as recognizable.

I bought the Rock Band 2 instruments and I find them fine.

I have both software and prefer the Rock Band 2 software.

The other thing is about difficulty. It seems Rock Band 2 is less difficult to play so if you have casuals in the house Rock Band 2 is probably a better choice.

I can only report my own experience. And in my own experience, the GHIV instruments are awesome.

Keep in mind that GHIV launched on all system and has a guitar only version, so it has probably sold 5x+ the number of instruments as RB2. So there will be more reported problems because of the sheer volume of sales.

I have both games and both are good (and unfortunately- Rock Revolution...which is NOT good), but I actually prefer the guitar in Rock Band 2 for a few reasons.  It's nicer looking, "bigger, but thinner," and it doesn't have "separated frets" (which I HATE).  But that is purely opinion and personal preference.

Drums don't matter to me because I have the Ion Drum Set ordered.

As far as the actual game...I definitely like Rock Band 2 better.  I currently have around 400 songs for it and believe me....some damn good ones.  If downloading isn't an option for you, then song selection may be a toss up.  I'm loving the Motley Crue, Nirvana, and ACDC albums.  And one of my favorites by far is Simple Man by Lynard Skynard and Behind Blue Eyes by The Who.  Once again, just preference.

As far as gameplay, they are really similar (obviously), but I do enjoy the Rock Band 2 look and play better--which may be just because I've played it many more hours.  But one amazing addition to Rock Band 2 is that it has a (Career Mode) Challenge Mode that ties directly into your downloadable content.  For example, you may "unlock" new challenges to play once you download the Nirvana album....as you continue to download, you realize that the single player career mode will never "end" because it is being continuously altered to use your downloadable content.  This really extends the game for you.

One other factor to take into account is the platform you are playing on.  I am playing it on my ps3 instead of my 360 mainly for song sharing with my buddies on downloadable content....but besides that, if you are playing it on a ps3, Rock Band 2 has Trophies and GH:WT doesn't.  I love my Acheivements and Trophies so this was a huge added bonus for me.

Anyhow, just my two cents.  Both are similar games and I'm sure you'll enjoy both.

Okay, I haven't got a lot of experience with the rythm games here, so I am going to ask some basic questions:

It seems to me that Rock Band 2 is the best rythm game around (consensus of the internet). But if I buy RB2, can I still play the songs with only one instrument? As in, could I buy the game and a guitar controller and still have great fun?

Also, I live in europe and own a PS3. Is there any info at all, on when we might get RB2 here?

There also seems to be talk that the periphirals of GH:WT are of better build quality than those of RB2. Is there anything in RB2 that you can't do on GH:WT hardware? (As in, "best rythm game + best rythm periphirals = win?"/I want to buy the best game and the best peripherals)
