Have any of you played Survivor mode in Bioshock with the Vitachambers turned off?!?! Fighting a big Daddy is one of the hardest things I've had to do in a game and cleverly using the environment is essential to beating them. There just isn't enough resources to take one of them head on unless you a freaking ninja at using telekenisis. Either way you have to be good at it to win, there is no eventually beat it unless you have the patients. Just like the old 8 bit games you have to have skill and/or brains to beat it.
EDIT: I should add that I know that most 8 bit games were much harder just by game design alone and not having saves, however, they were also short and repeatative you could memorize a level and beat it in a week or so depending on difficulty (Ninja Gaiden took me 3 weeks to master playing it a couple hours a day on average) In that same 3 weeks I might beat a modern game on normal difficulty. It's really the same amount of time I just get to see more gameplay and less memorization is necessary.
