@everstar, you forget they have a 1 year lead over them also, not much at all for a whole 1 year and all of your heaviest hitters have made their debuts.

 Oh yeah lol?

First off they are not my heaviest hitters i do not own Microsoft nor am i anyway incorporated with them. But the 5.57 million console lead that Microsoft has atm is the same as it was when the Ps3 first lanuched so they havent gained anything on Microsoft yet.

On your other thing about heaviest hitters already all gone then what is gears of war 2? What is the rest of the Mass effect triliogy? Whats Halo Wars? What Halo reconn or what ever its called? Im pertty sure that Microsoft will have many "heaviest hitters" as you call them in the years to come.

Mass effect isn't exclusive its on PC also, and doesn't push systems, neither will halo wars, no RTS has ever done well on a console let alone sell systems, Halo Recon? no comment to early for speculation but no more shooters on the 360 are going to push systems after having 3 years straight of shooters, (geow1,h3,geow2,), PS3 has the biggest exclusives coming in the future with GT5, and FF13 exclusive in Japan, everyone on this forum forgets this is a GLOBAL market, and PS3 has more appeal worldwide than just shooters carrying the system every year.

This argument has nothing to do with the thread so we should end this now but you said that the system has 3 years of straight shooters? LOL just look at whats going on in Japan right now JRPGs are all on the 360...and still more are to come.

Proud Owner of  a Wii and Xbox 360 and a PS3(When I get the money)

It has the JRPGs but it has not even made a dent in Japan selling a few more systems than usual due to the price cut for a few weeks but it's gotten hammered its whole lifespan over there. , Japan gamers will be buying PS3's now with FF exclusive over there and GT5, no brainer for them....

me don't believe that

i can see $99 arcade, $199 Pro, $249 Elite happening within the 5yrs

nah we'll see a price cut again in 2010 or 2011 when they can do it.

There will be no new price cut for the Xbox 360 for “many, many years in the future,” according to comments made by Microsoft UK’s head of gaming and entertainment, Stephen McGill.

The price of all models of the Xbox 360 was cut in the UK in September by the equivalent of around $50.

The move followed similar cuts in North America and Japan, with the Xbox 360 Arcade models now being priced below that of the Wii in all major markets.

Although McGill was unable to speak for other territories, the global nature of the previous cuts may imply a general approach to pricing by Microsoft, who have repeatedly cut the price of the Xbox 360 but has seen no retaliation from either Nintendo or Sony.

Speaking to consumer website Videogamer.com, McGill commented, “I'm not going to speculate where it might go (the price of the Xbox 360) in five or ten years time, whatever. But we've obviously just reduced the price and that's because we can pass the costs reductions we have straight on to consumers. That's the right thing to do, obviously from a business point of view it helps it sell even more.”

When asked to confirm whether any further price cuts were now unlikely, McGill replied, ”Yeah. I mean absolutely. We're a great price now. I'm not dropping the price for many, many years in the future, I would suspect."

If this is what they are really going to do this might give the PS3 a better chance to catch up in sales. Also dose this prove that the 360 will be out for at least another 5 years =)

well i read this last week and its a good read.

you have to remeber microsoft have a business to run, there are many people who say drop it to 79.99 and blow ps3wii out the water, and also vice versa from the other side.

it just doesnt work like that

there is only so low u can go, the ps2 is an example over here it retails at many places standalone for 79.99 - 89.99 they cant go lower than that.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

dude no flaming or anything but 360 is almost done with, i could basically promise u that a new console would be released by then

Bullcrap.

Next time they get a die shrink they'll pricedrop again.

edit@the guy before me: wow, still fudding with that line?

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

I'm not sure how anyone missed this, but they're talking about PAL regions only. It says nothing about any plans to possibly continue the price cutting in Japan and America well before this. Also this is probably legit, and is their current strategy, but as others have said, pressure from competitors could force their hand.
