Forums - Sony - On the reevaluation of the PS3's fortunes down the road or lack thereof

And you're fooling yourself into thinking that any of those games can single handedly change the tide. They are being beaten soundly again in the US and Other can't even come close to making up for it. FF13 in Japan will be a blip compaired to it's release state side... if the game sells at a good clip on the 360 and PS3 it should easily pass any previous FF game up in first week sales. Killzone 2 is being made by a second rate developer and God of War III isn't going to move to many systems(any more than Gears 2 will anyway). GT5 will move some systems in Europe, but likely will not have much of an effect in the US.

1) I will agree with you on God of War III. It -like the Gears 2- will be an absolutely awesome game, but is unlikely to move a large numbers of units.

2) Your jab at Killzone 2 falls short, the beta is playable and already getting an overwhelmingly positive feedback from community and media alike.

3) Agree on your FFXIII comment, HD sale in Japan is so pathetic that I cannot see one big title (not matter how big) turning the tide; I can forsee a massive spike ala MSG4 follow by steady decline. The roadblock in Japan however, isn't the 360 or even the Wii, but rather the DS and Sony's own PSP.

3) Your comments on GT5 is laughable, every major iteration of GT no matter on what platform and with how big or small a install base has always manage to be a massive system seller, considering the sales and popularity of the prologue, I don't have an doubt that GT5 will be anything but massive.

sony will beat microsoft this gen simple as that, there is gears 2 and halo wars left for 360 this gen for exclusives so it's pretty much done
not flaming just being ignorant

I remember last year, when the 360 had no exclusives left after Halo 3

Off the top of my head, the 360 still has the following exclusives coming up:

-Halo 3 Recon

-Splinter Cell: Conviction

-Alan Wake

-Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts

-APB: All Points Bulletin

-Huxley

-Ninja Blade

-Lips

-You're In The Movies (Those two WILL sell some consoles)

-WET

-Star Ocean IV

-Forza Motorsport 3

And don't remind me of the large list of PS3 exclusives--I know about them, they look great, I'm excited for some of them.  I'm not putting them down--I'm just not being an ignorant idiot about this issue.

None of those games with the possible exceptions of Star Ocean: The Last Hope and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts will sell a noticable amount of systems. Halo 3: Recon, Halo Wars and Halo: Chronicles will all sell extremely well, but won't move systems due to the success of Halo 3. This is true for Forza Motorsport 3 and Mass Effect 2 as well. I've never even heard of WET and APB has been indefinitely postponed of the 360. Huxley is vaporware and you're clearly fooling yourself if you think You're in the Movies or Lips will sell consoles. In the end, Microsoft is left banking on new IPs such as Alan Wake and Ninja Blade to keep them competative in weekly sales in with Sony and Nintendo in 2009 and it's almost definitely not going to work with the Wii being what it is and Sony bringing HUGE system selling exclusives such as Gran Turismo 5, God of War III, Killzone 2 and Final Fantasy XIII in Japan.

I shouldn't even bother responding to this, as a non-fanboy would have noticed that I was responding to the insinuation that the 360 has nothing after Gears 2 and Halo Wars.

I also notice you tossed in a Sony list at the end there.  Original, considering I put the folowing at the end of my post:

"And don't remind me of the large list of PS3 exclusives--I know about them, they look great, I'm excited for some of them.  I'm not putting them down--I'm just not being an ignorant idiot about this issue."

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Wow, fable 3 - 6! and you are rating too human 2?! bless

assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

A price drop is absolutely essential in the near future for Sony to become any kind of realistic threat to MS.

On the Blu Ray vibe I recently saw a gameshop have a Demo of a Xbox 360 running Casino Royale DVD upscaled and a PS3 running Casino Royale Blu Ray on identical HD Tv's and although there was a difference it was very very small.

People in the shop were saying as much and although I think the Demo was done to make a point for the personal beliefs of the owner a lot of people commented on how they would stick with DVD.

Come on Sony drop that price !

i love it when people say blu-ray and DVD are not that different lol. Because then i can tell they have never seen it or own it.

Fixed!

I threw the RUMOR in like PS3 fanboys to,lmao im so bad

lol Fable 3-6 for the 360?

Your talking about 8-10 years of development time minimum to create 4 more Fable games.

So 2018 for Fable VI?

Can't wait. I should have a morgage and family about then.

Jokes aside, I do agree the 360 has more then just Gears 2 and Halo Wars left.

Really DNO even an upscaled DVD on a sub 36 inch screen.....

Maybe you should try it for yourself before making lazy sweeping statements.

A question to people who say games like Halo Recon, Gears 2, Mass Effect 2 and other 360 sequels won't move any consoles because they're sequels and everyone who would want them already has the system...

Do you feel the same way about Resistance 2?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Well, all of the analysts a year or so ago said that the PS3 would be a dominant or at least much stronger force starting in 2008.  It is definitely stronger than what it was but how far can it go in the future?  I think that HOME will help, its video sales will help, and all of the extra applications like the music video and audio player-selections will help as it will let sony use the assets of its other divisions to make the PS3 more attractive as a product.  But look at another side of things.  The economy has slowed recently and both MS and Sony have taken a hit, financially speaking, but Sony has taken a significantly larger hit than MS.

...

Only a few uninformed analysis, not "all of the analysts" were predicting the PS3 to be dominant.  They may have expected the PS3 to do better vs the 360 (which is has), but very, very few expected it to compete with the Wii this year.

So, I think that reduced expectations from Sony are in order, and that we might be seeing an even more dominant MS as they might be able to gain some in the marketplace from a weakened sony.  Anyway what do y'all think?  Tell me like it is vgcharters.

Just out of curiosity: Did you read a lot of kirby007's "analysisses" about the HD console war?

The Blu-ray effect is probably a wash for Sony.  As the price of standalone players drop and Blu-ray adoption rises, this will increase Sony's media revenues.  At the same time, the PS3 will become less and less compelling as a Blu-ray player in the face of standalone players perhaps 1/2 the cost, so their console business may see a hit as a result.

If Sony really wants Blu-ray to succeed, they need to drop the prices of their Blu-ray movies, and they need to encourage the other studios to do the same.
