Forums - PC - Some questions about installing my new videocard

Ok, I just built/devised a brand new gaming rig, and I got the VC in the mail, but I have some inqueries.

1. In one of the reviews for said card, somebody wrote this:

Cons: Not a con; just a reminder: don't forget to change the jumper on the card from PAL to NTSC.

What does he mean, and how do I "change the jumper"?

2. There is PCI express x16, and PCI express 2.0 x16. How do I know which one I have on my new computer?

3. I have on my computer:

unused/total

1/1 PCI express x1

1/1 PCI experss x16

1/2 PCI v 2.3

Question:

What is PCI v 2.3? Could I hook my videocard into it by mistake? How can I know which one to put my videocard in, by visually looking?

That's all for now.

Hmm, a clamp? So I should put the card in the big black one, which probably does, but possibly does not have a clamp, and it'll probably be the only one it fits in, anyway?

when you video card is placed in the correct way, fan down, it will be the only one that will fit. It is also the longest slot.

1. Did you buy the card from an overseas vendor?  I'm not used to video cards having a Pal/NTSC jumper on them either.

What card did you buy?

2. Which motherboard did you buy?  It also may not matter.  PCI Express 2.0 just offers more bandwidth than 1.0 but if your video card doesn't use more than 1.0 spec bandwidth (which i don't think any of them ever do yet) then 2.0 wouldn't matter.

3. PCI is the interface used before PCI Express.  Your video card can't fit in that slot anyway.  They are typically reserved for sound cards now.

See the long black and blue connectors on the motherboard *3 of them* with the white retaining tab? Thats where it goes.

There will be a metal plate which is either breakable or screwed on where your graphics cards fan outlet and monitor plugs want to go, make sure you remove those two.

I was building my computer today and I couldn't get my 8800gt into the case, I was like WTF?!?! Its single slot, but I was a doofus it actually used two of the bays instead of one and I was trying to shove it in where it just didn't fit. Took me 5 minutes to realize! So yeah I removed the other metal cover and it slid right in.

Btw ANTEC p182 cases fucking rock!

Tease.
