So the "Arcade" in my mall is a mockery and shouldn't even be called an arcade, and Fun Central, an entertainment place near me (Mini golf/batting cages/arcade/etc) is going down the tubes.  The only arcade that is even close to acceptable near me is a Dave and Busters about an hour away and is rediculously expensive.

Does any one have a good quality arcade near them?  Is there any vestage of the amazingness (that's right, I said AMAZINGNESS) of the arcades of the 80's still around?

Sadly arcades died like 10 years ago. I was around 13-14 was the last time we had even a remotely decent arcade near me. The only place left that probably has a decent arcade is Chucky Cheeses.

Nope. They're all dead. They have been for 10 years.

I remember going to my old, awesome, arcade that had just about every cool game in the world. Virtu-On was the best game you could ever play on 2 players.

Unfortunately, when console gaming became huge, it died off for the most part.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

We had an awsome one around here. They had a ramped up section at the back with 10 or so pinball machines. It was sweet.

Nah--Like you, I've only got a D&B's. Awesome, but expensive.

They're still pretty popular in Japan, though.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Even over the last 3-4 years they killed off all the arcades down in Wildwood NJ. The boardwalk there used to have tons of arcade, and now they are all those fake casino's where you get tokens that you can trade in for prizes.

Gateway 26 used to be a huge arcade down in Wildwood, but now it is probably 40% crane games (which I do enjoy) 50% poker/blackjack/slots, and then 10% arcade games.

They used to have games like Crusin USA linked up to 8 players, which we would use all of them at the same time. Lots of unique games that didn't exist for home consoles and everything. Now I don't think they have a single fighting game, and none of the race games are linked for more than 2 players

Theres still a fair few arcades left in central London, i can think of 6 off the top of my head that are all within a 2 to 3 mile radius of each other (cant remember names of most) Theres a Namco arcade in the Angel area of London, One in holborn (dont know the name) theres one on oxford street (near tottenham court road tube station)theres also one thats actually on Tottenham court road (ironically next to Goodge street station lol) and the other 2 are Trocadero (once known as Sega world) and theres one near the London eye (I think its called fun land)

They all seem to still be doing pretty well so fingers crossed theres no closures anytime soon, Afterall, The one on Goodge street gets all the latest fighters as soon as they hit the UK, (Can't wait to check out street fighter 4)

Regarding wether arcades are still fun? Short answer........... NO, They're more of a novelty now and somthing you just pop in to for a few minutes if you happen to be in that part of town.

Hanging out in the Arcades together with friends..  :D
