Got NiGHTS as a gift. Found the gameplay to be unenticing and not nearly as fun as you'd think. Despite wanting to like it, I never played it and ultimately sold it.
I'd pass, but if you resell it (for $4) it's the price of a rental... Some places allow you to return used games for a nearly full refund within a week too.
House of the Dead is fun. It's a direct arcade port so you'll end up blasting through the same thing over and over always trying to get a little further this time. If that's okay with you then go ahead. It always good for short bursts of fun.
For me is a YES. The game is good at least for me, the soundtrack is pretty nice and if you've a classic control the game'll be much better.

I bought the game new this past summer on clearance for $9.99, but I still haven't gotten around to playing it... :-O I enjoyed the original game on the Sega Saturn though.(I still have the Saturn version ;-p )

If I had $12 I was looking to spend on video games, I'd buy some Wii points and download some awesome WiiWare/VC games before I bought Nights.
Just my opinion.

IT worth every single cent! For $12 it's a must have! I finished it and although not brilliant, it's a very nice title.
