Forums - Microsoft - Price Drop for Madden Football 08?

Apparently the price drop rumours are back from the aftermath of E3...

http://xbox360.destructoid.com/

According to the rumor Xbox 360 will see a $50 in the US and a $100 one in Canada...  (Our Canadian dollar is almost par so it makes sense to show that MS is sensitive to the changing market) just in time for the Madden release.  Price to be in effect August 8th according to the rumour...

I hope MS will do a $100 price drop... That would get them some good sales and press.

I can't see the Wii dropping in price until at least year since demand still outpaces supply so it makes no sense for them to do one.

Legend11 it is seems like you are referring to a Wii price drop. If you are responding to Thetonestarr's post, he is referring to EA dropping the price of Madden on Wii to $40.

That would make sense for MS. Not waiting until Halo. Rather, dropping the price by $50 before Madden, Bioshock, Blue Dragon. And, if they so choose, they could drop it another $50 around November.

He was talking about the price of the game, not the Wii itself. And I doubt it'll be only $40. Though a good idea sometimes is to watch circuit city flyers if there's a store in your area. They've had a number of games for sale on release day. I bought Pokemon Pearl through them for $7 cheaper than any other store was offering it. Wii games are usually $10 off (only noticed it for Mario Party 8 & Pokemon Revolution since I don't normally look at flyers but I was checking out prices on laptops for awhile).

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

I think too, it will a good point fo Microsoft to break the Sony momentum.
Even maybe to make a bundle with Madden 08 ?

yeah i wasn't much paying attention when i posted that. <_<

Misread and thought that NeoRatt was saying Madden '08 for 360 would cost only $50 USD (which had me boggled when reading the comment about "$100 Canadian" haha).

In that vein, though, if the 360 Madden did cost only $50 USD, then it WOULD make sense for Wii's to sell at $40.

Doing two $50 price drops in a short timeframe looks stupid and may even look a bit desperate (even if it was planned), so I don't buy that. It's either a $50 drop or a $100 drop ONCE. Now as for when, there are two obvious possibilities:

1- Before Halo 3 (such as this rumour says): good press for MS, good sales for all games launched until then, especially if it's a $100 drop.

2- After Halo 3: makes more money for MS, which they'd welcome after setting the $1 billion dollars aside for repairs. However, this would piss off some Halo fans and give them less good press, especially if it happens that Halo doesn't boost the system's sales significantly; people would say MS is desperate.

Basically it's a choice between money and good press and customer reactions. Even though the 360 does need money, I think they need the latter even more, so I wouldn't discount those rumours as false. I just hope it's a $100 drop, not a $50 one...
