Forums - Nintendo - IGN UK reviews Disaster: Day of Crisis 8.0

That said, some people will absolutely detest Disaster: Day of Crisis. It’s an awkward combination of extremes - old-school adventuring burdened with new-fangled mini-game sensibilities; abstract game mechanics wrestled into a single plot-driven narrative; sometimes lackluster visuals and pacing thoroughly at odds with that bombastic spectacle and massive ambition. It’s also fundamentally shallow, remarkably inconsistent and chronically naff. Like the disaster movies it takes inspiration from though, Day of Crisis is ultimately more than the sum of its parts. When it works, it’s a relentless, thrilling assault on your senses; a huge grin of game. And when it doesn’t, when it starts to wobble precariously on its own flimsy parts, it’s still compulsive in its creativity, inexplicable in its uniqueness and, most importantly, one thoroughly fun ride.

IGN UK Ratings for Disaster: Day of Crisis (Wii)
Rating Description
out of 10 click here for ratings guide
8.0 Presentation
A little rough around the edges but it mimics the disaster movie genre brilliantly, with cinematic style and tongue-in-cheek seriousness.
8.0 Graphics
Solid all round despite occassional low-poly monstrosities and soft textures. Weather and disaster effects frequently impress though.
7.5 Sound
Music is suitably intense, if repetitive, effects are beefy and voicework is a cheesy delight.
8.0 Gameplay
Occassional dud moments can't detract from the constantly surprising array of entertaining, if shallow, game mechanics.
8.5 Lasting Appeal
Twelve hours for a single play-through but plenty of daft extras and unlockables encourage repeat visits.
8.0

Wii/Mario Kart Wii Code:2793-0686-5434

Hey, the game is good. Sales for it in the UK (EU/Others) will be seen next week.

A solid game to help beef up the Wii library. This review makes it sound like the game could have a lot of potential to be "AAA" if a sequel is ever worked on.

Solid score just what I was expecting.Hope it comes to america too.

Im still not convinced....
The game looks just plain bad imo.

But I mean its another game you can throw at Wii haters when they bring up scores.

I really hope this game does well. I definitely think it's a 8.5-9.0/10.

Currently playing disaster and i like it very much to this point. And it's a game our american gaming brothers can't yet and perhaps won't enjoy. So, to quote the simpsons..HA-HA!

btw i would give it 8.5-9.0 as a score, it's really like a good old action blockbuster film.

"You won't find Adobe here in Nairobi"

I bought this, but Amazon turned off my purchase, so I guess I won't be able to purchase it before monday. Really, it should have been here today or yesterday :(

Nice score, and I am very, very happy to see it get an 8.5 in lasting appeal, as that is the area I was afraid it might lack in.
