Forums - Microsoft - Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2: Will Microsoft buy them?

All that Bioshock PS3 sales shows is that timed exclusive with long delays between release and a cheap PC release in between means low sales when the game is finally released on the second platform.
It doesn't mean PS3 owners don't like FPS ( check DeadSpace sales).

I am not doubting that PS3 fans like FPS, but have you ever played Dead Space? It is not an FPS.

I think Bioshock sales prove that long term exclusivity kills sales on other systems. This will make it even harder to Sony/MS to buy 1 year exclusivity.

I would expect more 1-2 month exclusivity deals, (like Rockband2) or exclusive DLC (Fallout3 or GTA4).

So I doubt Take Two will make the same mistake twice...

Bioshock 2 will most likely not be a timed exclusive but release simultaneously on both platforms. ( or Microsoft will have to fork a lot of money as a long timed exclusive means huge sales loss on the second platform).

Take Two really F****D up.
They didn't release Bioshock on the PS3 last year when there was virtually no FPS competition on that platform except CoD4.
And they release it this year around the same time as DeadSpace, RFoM2 and CoD5...

The biggest part they messed was releasing the title for dirt cheap on the PC a few months before releasing it on the PS3..

This. Honestly, I think that if a game gets a timed exclusivity for a year or so, it might as well stay exclusive because the sales will be abysmal. I'm pretty sure that Bioshock for the PS3 last year would have sold waaay more than it's selling now.

Yep, especially when the delay forces you to release a game against stronger competition....

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Bioshock will most likely be Multi unless something crazy happens. Mass Effect is an iffy since before Bioware was bought I would of said it was MS only but now there under the control of EA who knows...

Former something....

I think it really depends on what kind of cross advertising/marketing deal Microsoft is able/willing to do with the Bioshock game to ensure exclusivity of some description.

Also I guess it depends on how development the PS3 version of the game does, if it goes poorly I could see them bumping the PS3 version back 6 months automatically.

Tease.

Looking at Bioshock sales on the PS3, it is clear that if you buy a game's exclusivity for long enough, you essentially make that game your own.  Given the miniscule sales of Bioshock on PS3, the feasability of Microsoft buying a window of exclusivity on the second title just massively increased.

Mass Effect 2 is a different story.  Whereas Bioshock 2 may not directly follow on from the original story-wise, the second Mass Effect almost certainly will.  So EA has an incentive to accept an offer of payment from Microsoft in return for (at least a window of) exclusivity.

What do you guys think?

I think that 2k now understands how much they damaged the Bioshock franchise by letting MS buy timed exclusivity.  The only reason they released the originial Bioshock on the PS3 is because they want to release the sequel on the PS3.  I don't think the PS3 sequel is in any jeopardy.

The only reason why Mass Effect 2 would appear on the PS3 is to support EA's multiplatform policy.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Bioshock 2 is confirmed multi and ME2 is more likely to be multi because of EA.

I expect Mass Effect 2 to stay a timed exclusive at the very least but it will more than likely stay exclusive.

Bioshock 2 has already been confirmed multiplatform so it's going to stay a multiplatform and not even a timed exclusives.

Star Ocean 4 was given a trailer on the PSP version of GoW.

It's now an Xbox 360 exclusive.

I'm positive that Bioshock 2 will appear on the PS3, but there is nothing yet to prove when...
