Forums - Sales - WW Million Sellers Race

One of the big reasons I'm so anxious about Crystal Bearers is (from the trailer and interviews) it seems to reintroduce the exploration and adventure aspects that the PS2 Final Fantasy games dropped.

Add in Kingdom Hearts style graphics, a single-player focus with an optional multiplayer feature, the Final Fantasy name (the predecessor CC was a much more solid game than most, if not all, of the other FF spin-offs), and now put it on the hottest console ever seen, and we suddenly have a LOT of potential in Japan alone for it to become a possible million seller.

If the Wii has an install base of 5-6 million in Japan by the end of the year, which is very possible at this point, I don't think we can safely estimate the significant potential of this title . :)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Well reasoned argument Vanguardian1 and im forced to agree with you. My only annoyance with FF:CC was that it was far too focused upon multiplayer play rather than having a solid single player adventure alongside it. If Crystal Bearers has addressed this issue then i may consider getting it myself.

Games i'm currently playing:

You two mentioned some titles I've forgotten, especially MySims which is a quite sure bet IMO. And everybody seems to forget about Boogie!

So this is how the list looks for me then:

Mario Party
Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime
Smash Brothers
Madden
Fifa
My Sims
Boogie
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics

Looks like EA and Nintendo are going to make profit!

These games have a chance, but probably they will only become millionsellers after 07:

Mario Strikers
Soul Calibur Legends
No More Heroes
Dragon Quest Swords
Final Fantasy CC

I'm not sure about Mario and Sonic, maybe this is one for the second list. For the others, I think Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy would reach it if they would launch in all territories before the end of the year, but I think they will only be out in Japan until 08. I have no clue how No More Heroes will sell and Soul Calibur needs good legs to sell a million IMO. About Mario Strikers, we would need to see European sales figures to tell how well it'll sell.

Oh, and someone mentioned Paper Mario. This one is already a million seller and accounts to the seven.

Do you agree with me?

Are we reffering to current, or future 1m sellers?

Xbox 360 2007:

Lost Planet (done)
Crackdown (done)
Ghost Recon AW2 (should happen in a few weeks, @ 600k/us and adding 10k/wk in US + Japan + Euro)
Guitar Hero 2 (done + growing, could hit 2m)
Forza Motorsports 2 (soon)
NCAA Football 08 (most likely)
Madden 08 (virtual lock, possible 2m seller)
Blue Dragon (lock)
Halo 3 (duh)
PGR4 (if it comes out this year)
Left 4 Dead (very likely)
Call of Duty 4 (lock)
Army of Two (very likely)
Mass Effect
Grand Theft Auto 4
Lost Odyssey (should hit 1m this year, but WILL hit 1m by 08, and is an 07 release).

Possibles:
BioShock
Two Worlds
World in Conflict
Eternal Sonata
Army of Two
Splinter Cell Conviction

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Here are my predictions:

On Wii- 5 new million sellers

Mario Party 8
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros.
Super Paper Mario
Madden 08

I don't think Metroid Prime will be a million seller this year, but it might surprise me.

On 360- 7 guaranteed + 3 possible = 10

NCAA Football 08
Madden 08
Halo 3
Mass Effect
Forza Motorsport 2
Call of Duty 4
GTA IV

Possible- 3

Rock Band
GH III
Half Life 2: Orange Box

I don't think Blue Dragon, Bioshock or PGR4 will hit a million this year.

On PS3- 2 I expect + 3 Possible= 5

Motorstorm
Madden 08

Possible-

Heavenly Sword
GTA IV
Ratchet and Clank

I don't think Lair or Uncharted will sell a million this year.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

The Wii has an advantage over the other two systems in that it has a pretty strong userbase in all major regions so a game can break a million units worldwide without selling particularly well in any one region. With that in mind, I expect the following Wii games will break 1 Million this year:

Mario Party 8
Super Paper Mario
Mario Strikers Charged
Metroid Prime 3
Super Smash Bros: Brawl
Super Mario Galaxy
Madden 08
Dragon Quest: Swords

I believe that there is an outside chance that the following games will break a million but they will probably require unexpected strong sales in all regions or in a particular region:

MySims
Boogie
Dance Dance Revolution: Hotest Party
Battalion Wars 2
Fire Emblem
Harvest Moon
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics
Nights: Journey of Dreams
Rayman Raving Rabids 2
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
Soul Calibur Legends
Metal of Honor Heroes 2
Wii Fit
Wii Music

Edit: On a side note I am quite amazed at some of the games people see as a 'lock' for the PS3 and XBox 360; many of these games would be on my list of 'Games I expected to sell poorly' for both systems ...

I can see Mario and Sonic at the Olympics being a cultural phenomenon in Japan, i can see it selling absoluetly bucket loads over there yet selling a mediocre amount elsewhere. Ah has Paper Mario already reached a million? Heh it hasnt even reached PAL shores yet. Boogie could be a hit, could be a flop, its one of those games.

You guys all forget two things:

First, Super Paper Mario already sold more than a million.

Second, Fifa is the european equivalent to Madden, so you have to count this too, it'll at least be a million seller on 360 and Wii, maybe also on PS3

The Wii won't catch up, and will in all likelihood fall behind. The PS3 will stay about toe-to-toe with the Wii, and the 360 will churn out half a dozen without question.

Last update: Week ending November 3, 2007

If they put some new metroid ads on tv, it will sell a mill BEFORE christmas. Parents are gonna bum rush wii/ds games this year (plus the systems) i can easily see Galaxy, Metroid, Strikers, Mario and Sonic, Mario Party 8 *the week its released in japan*, Brawl, Dragon Quest, possibly madden and fifa and if wii fit is released in japan expect something rediculous.

On a side note, with the release of Halo expect sales of other FPS to drop (obviously) due to people being tied up with halo. I dont see Blue Dragon crashing the mil mark either, but i do plan on getting it :)
