Forums - Sales - CVG: millions of "LBP" users on the first day, fired the servers

The servers can't cope

Last night, about the time when the Americans were waking up, the servers suddenly imploded. Nothing would load properly, the game would freeze and hang, and even checking your friends' profiles or uploading a level was impossible. Hopefully they'll add more heft to the LBP servers come the EU release, otherwise the game's at risk of buckling under the weight of the millions of users trying to play it. It took us nine or ten attempts to upload our level last night, and multiplayer was lag-tastic.

But even with all of this, LBP is still incredible, and we had more fun last night than we've had with some entire games. When the servers are sorted out, the griefers are smashed with the banhammer and the game's available to the general public, LBP will be perfect. Now it's 'merely' brilliant.

Misleading title.

HE doesn't say there are millions of users at all. He says there may be at the EU launch.

I can't tell you what first day sales in NA were, but first week sales were around 140k.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

its an assumption, he is assuming that millions will have this game.

even if the game sells amazing, i doubt there will be many times if any when a million are playing this game online at the same time.

Wow. 140k on a recalled game? Unless you were referring to this week. Can I borrow that time machine?

Sorry, thats 164k.  Made a mistake.

The time machine is mine and mine alone!!!

I use it to perve on Britney Spears back in the days she was hot.

It's impossible that "millions" of people were trying to use the servers and it is highly unlikely that even a singular million were trying to use them.

Are you trying to use someone else's figure of speech to reinforce your belief that LBP is already a milllion seller?

Or do you, like most, realize that is has probably not yet hit that mark.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

yeah, and the 164k you saw in this website only shows you leaked copies/early releases. majority of retailers only started selling today. that said, stop underestimating something that hasn't even started selling yet.

My locked thread sense is tingling...

On topic, Millions is an obvious exaggeration - like saying "wow - I got rushed by millions of Zerg on Starcraft an got lagged"
Just a figure of speech imo
is there any way to track actual number of online users?

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

Because the servers getting fried would make less sense.

Tai-po!
