Forums - General Discussion - The Ant and the Grasshopper.....

Ants live in colonies, where all but the queen and her suitors are treated equally and only do mindless work. If one isn't pulling their weight from illness, they move them outside of the anthill. The royal retinue indulges in sex and eating the fruits of the colonies labor all day.

That actually sounds like America to me.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. In other news the ant is a slave to the capitalistic system. He goes to work everyday, he mows his lawn every week, he tips his waitress 10% everyday, he shops at Wal-Mart every week, and he is very well-insured. The ant was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in a sleazy motel outside of Flint, Michigan.

Lol. That was great.

In other news, this brings up bad memories of having to memorize and recite la cigale et la fourmi in french class.

And yes Dogs Rule, that is very true. Actually I don't think they are all that well concealed.

Those family members were the ones who decided not to participate in building the winter homes, so the Government with common sense told them that they couldn't have any money for sitting around.

Survival of the fittest, or in this case, hard-workers.

Because people are just animals and we shouldn't at all be concerned when they die, especially if they are poor.  I mean what is a human life worth right?  We get rid of a bunch of them in Iraq everyday!

1. Technically we are all animals, and if so, why should humans be more importaint then other animals. Because we evoled more? If you, however, are not an Atheist, please continue.

2. The poor got that way because they did not try in life. If they tried, everything would be hunkey dorey for them.

3. The government would FORCE people to give to the poor, and keep 50% of the cash to themselves, while if people willingly gave to a church, it would be a more meaningful gift and >90% would go to the poor.

4. How can you be pro-choice with that sarcastic remark?

5. I agree, Iraq wasn't handled in the best mannor, but death rates have gone down significantly, the country has stablized so much since we started, and we should wait for a solid victory before we pull out too fast. Can you honestly say Iraq was better off under Saddam? Now they control their own future and have a democracy...

6.Are you pro Russia? That does not work for anyone. Was East Germany better off then the west...are the people of North Korea better off than those in the south?  How many examples do you need?

Conclusion: Socialism is a proven failure - just open a history book. Even one written by the left can't hide the truth. Now with Barack, we are headed for the same failure repeated over and over through history. The greater good is capitalism, hands down. It is just the truth proven again and again.

Americans are NOT treated equally. The problem is that people aren't pulling their weight not from illness, but laziness. The "Royal" actually had to earn their way to the top by having great ideas instead of being born in the Royal family.

This actually sounds more like China to me.

I'm gonna let you in on a few secrets:

1. The Republican Party (the religious party) is the same one who takes such a hardline stance on helping the poor!  Kind of weird huh!

2. This is just the dumbest statement I have ever heard, so I am not going to acknowledge it.

3. The government ALREADY does this!  And domestic welfare programs in their entirety each year excluding SS cost less than 4 months in Iraq!

4. Because it is sarcasm...

5. The thousands and thousands of people who are now dead and the over a million who have left the country after we invaded were better off, and so were their families.

6. I'm not pro-Russia, or pro-anything for that matter.  I just think it is sickening that the richest country in the world treats its poor so callously.

Actually democratic socialism is still incredibly popular and a commonly practiced ethos.  But saying that democratic socialism is actually like "socialism" is like saying that the U.S.'s form of "capitalism" is anything like true capitalism.

lol by your definition most of europe are "socialists"

Calling that "socialism" is just plain exaggerated. Also lol @ your goddamn-commie attitude. Thought people backed off from that after the McCarthy era.

Also, poor people are poor for a variety of reasons. It sometimes has nothing to do with being lazy drug addicts. Really.

Also many people don't want to contribute to or participate in our corporate world. Really. Some of us quite hate it actually.

To clarify: A corporation acts as a single entity that has no soul and has only the objective of making as much profit as possible. Doesn't this ever scare you? If people didn't have a conscience this world would be quite hellish. This is why the government needs to at least be somewhat involved. This is why regulation is needed. This is why people need to be given health insurance (cause businesses wont give such benefits without being forced to for one reason or another). They don't do that shit out of the kindness of their hearts.

I think we try way too hard to simplify the real world, finding parables and metaphors for everything.  When the parable or metaphor makes sense, stupid people knod their heads and think or say, "Well, the story makes sense and made me chuckle, so what ever it seems similar to must be equally simple and right."

WRONG!

The world is complex, the labels we use (sometimes called words) have many meanings and situations sometimes do not have the perfect words to convey the idea accurately.  But the intelligent pragmatist says, "we do the best we can with what we have and we look at things individually and independently."

So instead of answer with another parable or metaphor, I will say, "open your eyes, look at things as they really are, read and listen to the experts in the field (not the pundits, the experts), ask what would be best for your health and happiness, and then vote."  Maybe it will be Obama, maybe it will be McCain.

Economists

Human Resources experts on Healthcare

Military  (quoted from Foxnews): "A senior Pentagon official said an Obama swearing-in "will give the Arab street the final victory, the best optics, and the ultimate in bragging rights. They win. We lose."  I'm trying to figure out if he meant because his name sounds muslim or because he is brown.  A victory for "the Arab street"? I thought the average Arab on the street was our friend, the Fundamentalist terrorists are the enemy.  Therefore, a victory for the Arab street is a victory for us, I count this as an endorsement.

Very good response steven. But it is pretty fun to play with parables.

This one is about giving money to poor people! Or something...

A MAN who had been bitten by a Dog went about in quest of someone
who might heal him. A friend, meeting him and learning what he
wanted, said, "If you would be cured, take a piece of bread, and
dip it in the blood from your wound, and go and give it to the
Dog that bit you." The Man who had been bitten laughed at this
advice and said, "Why? If I should do so, it would be as if I
should beg every Dog in the town to bite me."

Benefits bestowed upon the evil-disposed increase their
means of injuring you.
