Forums - General - Diego Maradona new coach of Argentina national football team

Well.. to be honest... we (the Dutch) had van Basten as coach with no experience at all.. (only coaching the youth team from Ajax) We did alright... if he can get the right staff around him it could be a good thing... but ofcourse van Basten has a "clean" history...

how has argentina been doing lately??
they didn't win last time , did they?

Well, the U-23 won the Gold medal at Beijing, but the Selección hasn't been doing well at all, they only won 1 game in their last 7 in the World Cup Qualifiers (still they're qualifying as of now to the WC), last match they lost against Chile 1-0 (for the first time in history)

this is very bad , they have messi , aguiro , teves and maxi rodrigues , they are super stars

it's a coach issue then

Yeah... Maybe that's what the colombian team needs... Pibe Valderrama as the new coach!

u mean in euro 2008?

I don't know I felt the good results were due to the failures of others "italy and france" , they sucked hard

plus, the front line helped van basten a lot

I'm not a dutch man but I love football ^^

Well at least we qualified easily for the World Cup & European Cup.. and past the first round both tournaments with van Basten..

And he had to build an entire new team when he started.. so he did alright..  but yes who wouldn't with a front line with van Nistelrooy, Robben & van Persie.. and behind them van der Vaart & Sneijder.. & Kuijt & Babel on the bench...

Van Basten's team was a great one, I never had been a fan of the Dutch team (nor did I dislike them), but seeing they play, they won me, I love the football they played, specially in the matches against France and Italy in the Euro, that was some exhibition of football.

Still, I can imagine Van Basten more of a thinker than Diego. For example, would you imagine Diego sitting all day at home watching videos of his next opponent. I don't. Besides, in an interview some days ago he said the players he'd field if he were coach of the Selección. Trust me, it was awful

This could be a shame. Argentina has potential to be one of, if not the, best national team in football. Lots of young super talents there, and in 2010, they might have had a change of winning. Oscar Ustari, Sergio Aguero, Tevez and Messi will all be some of the top players in their position by then.

BTW, Argentina won the Olympics, right?

Yes, they won the gold

Besides, it's not like they didn't have anyone to choose. Bianchi was free, and he was willing to take, and he's the most successful argentinian coach EVER

He won

  • Clausura 1993, Apertura 1995 and Clausura 1996 (Vélez Sársfield)
  • Copa Libertadores 1994 (Vélez Sársfield)
  • Intercontinental Cup 1994 (Vélez Sársfield)
  • Copa Interamericana 1996 (Vélez Sársfield)
  • Apertura 1998, 2000, 2003; Clausura 1999 (Boca Juniors)
  • Copa Libertadores 2000, 2001 and 2003, Runner Up 2004 (Boca Juniors)
  • Intercontinental Cup 2000 and 2003 (Boca Juniors)

And he only coached Velez in 1993-1996 and Boca in 1998-2001 and 2003-2004. He's by far the best

He will probably teach them to take in cocaine and scoring with their hands.

Will he be able to cope with all the pressure or will he go back to cocaine?

Predictions?
