Forums - Gaming - Will games continue to portray women as sex objects in the future?

I hope so.

Ditto. They even made a librarian looking chica look like a total sex object. That's right Bayonetta. You tell me how much Dan Brown isn't a good author. You tell me good girl!

I don't think it really has to do with their appearance but more or less their character in the game. I mean a good looking and strong willed woman such as we see in games like Heavenly Sword doesn't portray a sex object.

Of course you'll always have the mindless and useless characters with extrapolated features like in DOA. Of course I don't see what 's wrong with either one as both have sold well meaning there is a base for both.

As long as games are made with a major target group of young men. Games will have women as sex objects. Similar to movies, music videos ... (Not much wrong with it anyway )

Heavy rain.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tell me that 6 out of 10 men don't masturbate and make my day

Wha...huh?!

That was out of context. Anyways....

I think women will always be made to be sex objects as long as guys play video games even if they're not the overwhelming majority. Look at stuff that is aimed at women and even then, they're often shown as sex objects. That could be movies, TV or music and material aimed at women still show women often as sex objects. And some women seem to take delight in that.

I'll come up with something better eventually...

women playing games does not mean that the man gamer population interested in these games will diminish.... if anything you might see a fighting game with half nake men one day.

Of course they will because there is no reason not too. For the majority of companies the only thing that really matters is money. They will not stop even if people bitch about it. If they believe that they can make more money by portraying women as sex objects then they will. This is not to say that all games will portray all women as sex objects; especially if more and more females enter the market. Some games will be tailored specifically to them which might tone down the sexism. For games that are geared towards males, you will always have games with super skinny, big boobed/ass, girls wearing minimal clothing.

I started making videos for youtube; check them out.

And that, my fellow VGCer, is the day when I stop gaming.

Oh god not this argument. Look how many males look like the pretty boys from every other JRPG or as buff as people in fighters. Hardly any! Same goes for women. We dont wanna play as boring/ugly looking characters so they make em look sexy or at least appealing.

well when all the Babies/Fashion/pets/enchanted DS playing little 6 year old girls become teenage girls, do you not think there will be a market for it?

I mean a few years ago we had the boys bands, and people like Mark Walberg got to fame because they were singing with their pants down showing their muscles and boxers.... There is a market if the target population uses the medium!
