Well Factor 5 said that Wii was roughly 2xXbox, so who are you gonna believe EA(think that was who made your quote) or a dev that actually knows console hardware?

One of the better ones I read was some very smart people speculating on the size difference between the Hollywood and Broadway processors and their Gamecube equilivalents (Flipper and Gekko). If the Hollywood and Broadway processors received no improvements you would expect the move from the 180nm process to the 90nm process to make them (roughly) 1/4 the size of the Flipper and Gekko; what we do know is that the Hollywood and Broadway processors are 1/2 the size of the Flipper and Gekko. The article speculated that the Broadway processor probably has double the L2 cache as the Gekko and additional instructions, and the Hollywood processor has seen the number of pixel pipelines double and the TEV unit has been improved. |
I think this was the same article. I've tried very hard to find it again, but I've had no luck.
Witty signature here...
Wii: 14 million by January I sold myself short
360: 13 million by January I sold microsoft short, but not as bad as Nintendo.
PS3: 6 million by January. If it approaches 8 mil i'll eat crow Mnn Crow is yummy.
With these results, I've determined that I suck at long term predictions, and will not long term predict anything ever again. Thus spaketh Crono.
I will say I don't know a whole lot about technical specs really. What I do know is that Nintendo always has something up their sleeve when it comes to showcasing their consoles power. I don't think anyone here is going to argue the Wii is more powerful than 360 or PS3. I think the OP was merely using those systems as a reference to better illustrate Wii's power in relation to the hardware the other 2 are using. I am willing to bet the Wii is much more powerful than most people would like to think, and that it will produce some games later in its life by capable developers that will blow you away.

First off I love Grr!
Second. I expect the Wii to get some games with amazing artistic sway. But graphically, I expect at best, no more than 2x an x-box. The specs really arent that great, and the only reason I say 2x, is because I'm sure there will be something new come out in software, that will be easier on the GPU, to make a game look better. Just like bump mapping. It makes a 3D model look 10x better, without adding polygons.
But overall, I never expect the Wii to look amazing 'technically' I mean, I expect some amazing games graphically, but not technically. Now, this is a technical post, so it's kinda bogus in my eyes.

Does it actually have a DVD-9 drive?
The GC used a propriatory drive system (developed by Ninty & Panasonic) to make copying hard. The Wii might be able to read DVD-9 discs - but I thought the system used an extension of the GC disc format (physically bigger discs, more memory). Not sure if they hold 4Gig or 9Gig.
???
Gesta Non Verba
Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:
Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099
Those specs are quite a bit higher than I thought. I mean the PC I'm using atm only has a ~800mhz processor, so it's not to be written off just because it seems low on paper, as I know this PC can handle a fair amount-just take a hell of a long time to load up XP. Also, the disk space increase will hopefully mean that some hard-working developers make some awesome games. If a GT4/Forza racing type game comes out, with even GT4 graphics, I am so picking up a Wii just for driving with it's controller :P
I just wish devs and Nintendo would make some good looking/realistic games to show the prowess of the Wiis power, as I haven't really seen anything above what has been done on PS2/xBox. It's a shame they don't =(

Well Tispower, in 2007 you can only hope to see that kind of 2X Xbox games from Nintendo itself. Maybe in 2008 you will se something from Capcom and Namco. By the time you see a game like that from EA or Ubisoft, the PS4 may be out already.

I wasn't thinking '07 really, as games like GT4 didn't come out til the PS2 had been out for some time, I was more thinking mid 08. But atm there doesn't seem to be anything mentioned, that will look good, I guess there's metroid, but as countless people have said, it's a FPA, and so I'm unsure of whether I'd enjoy it or not :/ Actually, did Red Steel look good or not? Cos that's definately an FPS, and so I might be interested, as I'm hoping to get a Wii when there is at least 1 FPS and 1 driving game, that take themselves seriously (realism wise, ie physics, graphics etc), because although Mario cary *is* fun, I definately enjoy playing stuff like GT4 I'm afraid.
