Forums - Gaming - The Wii third party game explosion has begun!

Is anybody going to try and refute the 'wave theory' that has been proposed?
The one that says that this wave of crap games and shovelware only indicates a change in developer focus that will cause good games to come to the Wii - but not yet as for a good game development takes time.

It's about as valid as PS3 fans who say their system will take off next year (as in nobody knows for sure and anyone who claims otherwise is just guessing and hoping).

The question is simple, as a Wii owner do you prefer Ninja Bread Man as an exclusive or Resident Evil 5 as a multiplatform game that also comes out on Wii?

If you were a PS3 owner, would you prefer Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire or Super Mario Galaxy?

Signature material here...

How is that even the same? Is there a chance of Mario Galaxy going somewhere other than the Nintendo console? No.

Come on Ckmlb!  I know you can figure this one out!

How are they the same?

Think hard Avalach21... The game ckmlb mentioned is a third party game which had a chance of going to any console (although it's now known to be coming to the PS3/360), the game you mentioned is a first party game which has no chance of going to another console, you must see the difference.

A friend of mine in 2002 was debating between getting a PS2 and an XBox after their price cut. He was personally more excited about the XBox because of the upcomming XBox Live but eventually ended up getting a PS2. The reason the PS2 was choosen was because his common-law girlfriend insisted upon it because there was a crappy quiz-show tie in game for her to play and far more Spongebob-Like games available for their 4 year old son ...

In many ways the quantity of games (regardless of their quality) ends up having an impact on how well the system sells

So while RE5 may not be EXCLUSIVE to either the PS3 or the 360, it is what we might call a "disexclusive" against the Wii.

OK, but then you have to compare those Wii disexclusives against PS3 disexclusives and 360 disexclusives, not Wii exclusives. Otherwise it's nothing but an unflatering "Wii against the world".

Name 3 games that are coming to Wii and 360 but not PS3, or 3 games coming to Wii and PS3 but not 360.

[edit: Or are currently out.]

Just as a sidenote:

The whole discussion about "PS360" games is useless because this thread was about "new games beeing announced this month" and Resident Evil, Devil may cray, etc. were announced earlier.

So the point of this thread should´ve been to show that the Wii is getting more games now... (and yes, it doesn´t get all games, that´s correct.)

Except past console history suggest developers quickly abandon poorly selling consoles in favour of good selling consoles, and also that quality games take longer to make.

Whereas past history has NEVER shown one console having a change in momentum anywhere NEAR what would be required of the PS3 and Wii for the PS3 to overtake it.

One viewpoint is based on past examples, and evidence, whereas the other is not.

That's entirely subjective and... totally not the point!?

Is that so? Replace Ninja Bread Man with almost any of the games on this list and RE 5 with a big game franchise that you like: I dunno GTA, DMC, Call of Duty, FF series, MGS series, etc...

And it still applies.

Also this thread was asking to be flamed. I mean seriously, 3rd party explosion? This is it? Color me completely and totally unimpressed.

IMO, all those games suck hard except FF.

He's comparing them to budget title Ninja Bread Man though (Which shouldn't even be on Nintendo's exclusives list to begin with since it's also coming for the PS2 which means it's playable on the PS3, but that's beside the point...).

(You can't catch me because I'm the ninjabread man.. Not that we'd want to catch him anyways.)

Anyway, everyone needs to shut up because we're all fighting when in reality we all agree with each other.

The only thing that needs to be said is that people are putting up straw men everywhere trying to argue either side when none of you get the original point of the post.

The original point was thus:

Wii has got lots of third party games. This signifies a large shift in developer support towards the Wii.

Nothing was ever said about the quality of these games, simply that there were lots of them, and this means that developers are beginning to get behind the Wii and put some games there, when they were loathe to touch it before it was released.

Now, let's all just quit your bitching, because I think everyone knows that there's a lot of shovelware in there. But just because you haven't heard of a game, does not mean that it can't blow you away. So in the end, sheer numbers wins, it did for the PS2.

Just in this month's Game Informer I'll list the games appearing on the 360 and PS3 (and not the Wii) that are not on that site's list as "exclusive."

Prototype (cover feature, new game announced...Radical Entertainment, developer of the critically acclaimed Hulk game, is making a sandbox game), Beowulf (Ubisoft), Destroy All Humans: Path of the Furon (Sandblast),Condemned 2: Bloodshot (Monolith Studios), Medal of Honor: Airborne (EALA), and Conan (Nihilistic).

Others that come to mind from E3: Call of Duty 4, RE5, SC5, Rock Band, UT3, Haze, Assassin's Creed, etc.

The overlap is what kills the PS3 and 360 in a list like that and the fact that budget titles are extremely rare on those platforms (a budget title with PS2 quality graphics wouldn't really be a big issue on the Wii but would likely be a dealbreaker on the PS3 and 360 unless the game had amazing gameplay which isn't the case in the majority of those types of games).

It does seem to be hurting among public perception here. I'd like to point out that all the great budget games for 360 and especially PS3 lately are downloadable games, which oddly enough are not counted in the exclusive list on that site. VC has no original games.

If they start counting Wii-ware games when those finally appear next year we'll know the site is biased.

The huge library of crap PS2 games could be overlooked because the majority good 3rd party games were on the PS2. This is not the case with the Wii yet. And until that happens the Wii has crappy 3rd party support in my book, I don't care how many Carnival Games and Ninja Bread Men you stack up to make an argument against this.

A majority of the big 3rd party franchises are going to 360 and PS3 and not the Wi. GTA, RE, DMC, SC, Tekken, FF, MGS among many many of the best and best selling 3rd party games are going to the other two consoles.

Can you really claim the Wii is getting the best 3rd party support when you are completely leaving out most of the biggest 3rd party franchises in existance?

You nailed it. I've noticed that the Wii is starting to become known as the place to be for shovelware, I mean there's one developer with 30 Wii budget titles in the works, I'm sure they can be put on a list like that (some of them are already mentioned) as some sort of victory in getting exclusives but it is definitely a hollow victory.

Hollow victory, indeed.  That pretty much sums up my points.
