Well, I've heard people say Fight Club is a better movie than The Godfather, so this shouldnt really surprise me.
But still, i thought everyone and their grandma knew about Super Mario Bros

Oh, sorry, I overlooked your mention of Doom 2.

Everyone, absolutely every PC gamer played at least the shareware version of the first doom when it came out (even in Germany where it was soon banned, if I recall correctly - all versions are banned here until today except the GBA version). Doom was the greatest sensation in PC gaming I ever witnessed and a technical milestone.
