Forums - Sony - SCEA $499 PS3 Boosts Sales 135% at Top 5 Retailers

Ok is it just me who noticed this or is it just me who is imagining this?

The article has quotes from SCEA, one of the quotes is ...

"continued to exhibit solid growth evidenced by a 21 percent increase in total retail dollars generated year-over-year in North America with total sales of $393 million."

Now it seems to me that the writer is assuming this translates to a direct 21% "increase" for PS3 console sales. But in fact it could be any number of SCEA products, right? I only mention it because several people have brought up this 21% number and have been basing things off of it....

Edit: PS - Reading the article again, they added this ....

"[Correction: we mistakenly wrote that the 21 percent brought the number to 119K, but the 98.5K actually includes the 21 percent bump.]."

They seem pretty sure its console sales growth directly, but the entire article seems to be about a few quotes from SCEA...so I am not sure what the hell to think.

^I said that the companies would be spinning, but I guess I just did not specify. I ignore half of the stuff Diomedes says.

Only half?

^That was kind of obvious. The question is, how much?

I was being facetious, teasing the Sony fanboys for the PS3 failing to pass 100K last month

If you're gonna tease, do it the right way

haha!

I can't stop laughing at that gif =)

OT: those pole vault poles are very impressive. That vaulter seems to have done well to not seriously kill himself on the landing. I suppose that's Sony's spin? ;)

Shams I was under the impression that the price cut came in the second week of July which is why I added up the first 2 weeks without the boost. I also rounded 98 to 100 close enough Sony is not going to say 136% increase it would only be an estimate so I estimate 20K a week sales. I am also not sure if they meant 135% since the price cut or 135% for the whole month. IF what they mean by month is the whole NPD period which would be ~235K or if it is by the weekly average which would be ~188K if every week was for teh price cu. Or like what you have a 135% increase for 1 week and a decreasing percentage increase for the rest of the month.

I think it is safe to say it will be between 150K-240K for the US next month.

The July NPD period started July 8 and the price drop took effect July 12, so less than a week of sales will be at pre price drop levels.

Regarding the increase for June:

June was a 5 week month for NPD. As such, shouldn't it have seen a 25 percent increase in sales, and not 21? The answer is yes -- it sold less per week this month than it did last month. Nice trick though!

Substancial rumors of an impending price cut will do that to sales. I'm actually surprised it didn't drop off even more.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

I heard Nintendo was considering dropping the price of GBA to 49.99. They may lose money on every system sold, but they need to keep pace with the PS3.
